I honestly wouldnt be dead against restrictions on semi-auto weapons.that would at least make it harder for some phsyco to just walk down the street and grab one to rampage with...of course the guy who did this took it from his mom.

I dont think it would be. I actually think its quite reasonable. Most firearms used in crime are stolen. I think people have the responsibilty to safe guard their weapons against theft. After all, we are talking about something meant to kill.

Correct. San Francisco is currently being sued for a law like this. A locked away firearm cannot be considered readily available for self defense and therefore is unconstitutional.

Locked when a person is not home is not unreasonable. But the San Fran law states that you have to either be carrying it on your person while at home or it must be locked away.

How so? I said when the weapon wasnt in sight. Let me rephease and say when the owner of the firearm isnt wighin the building it should be kept locked up.

However, this probably would not change the Aurora or Newton scenarios at all.

The law should be more realistic.

If the mothers weapons were locked up, he would have had to find another source for the firearms. Which he would have, or he would have some other weapon.

true, it's still not a bad idea, i don't know if i'd want it to be a law, but it should definitely be taught in safety classes.

Some of us are very touchy on the gun subject because certain states and individuals are bent on a comprehensive weapons ban. Strange that two of the main states politicians that immediately spoke out about needing "tighter restrictions" and stronger "gun control" were California and New York. These states already have some of the strictest laws in the country so why are they calling for tighter restrictions? The laws worked. This dumb ass wasn't able to buy the gun he wanted when he wanted so he killed his mom and stole them from her. NO additional laws would stop that.

He killed her. You don't think he might've forced her to unlock them? Or give hime the keys/combination?

Why would it be bad if it was a law if you support the idea ?

The constant passing of laws kowtowing to the lowest common denominator results in a bland over regulated society.

nothing. same gun. same round, sam mag. only difference is the stocks.
i don’t see it doing anything. i think the average person can change a mag in less than 2 seconds. say you have 4 30 round mags, thats 120 rounds. you can still carry the same amount of rounds but you will have to have 12 mags. and at les than 2 seconds to change mags. it may take a little longer to shoot that same 120 rounds but if they are going to do they are going to do. or they will get the mags illegally like they did back in the ‘90s for the LA bank robbery.

but if you supported the idea , and would implement it anyway , why would it make any difference to you ?

and it would move " the lowest common denominators " in the direction you actually agree with , no ?

Actually, in California the wood rifle would be more "dangerous". Since it has no evil features it can have a regular magazine release. The "evil" black rifle would need something called a "bullet" button that doesn't allow you to release the magazine without the use of a tool.
