I have been hearing reports that this kid tried to buy these weapons before but was denied for a number of reasons, but low and behold his dear mother ends up in possession of the very weapons he was denied for. Weapons in which he had full access to, read mommy bought those guns for junior. The problem with today's youth are parents that want to be there kid's friends and not their parents. I still say a forced two year draft would be awesome. The quality would be fine.

That's what I'm beginning to believe. In N Michigan there is a massive building that's way before my time. Its a shopping mall now with high end condos which is wierd, but aparantly it was a mental health facility. Why were there so many crazies back then that needed to be separated from society but now they can roam freely among the general population?

Civil war my ass. Lots of tough talk, but faced with police, national guard, and the US military, things would quiet down pretty quickly. There would be no popular support for your minor league uprising- if it even happened.

Time to rethink the second amendment. As another poster has very well written, It was written at a different time, when this nation was in a different place.

You are Army, what did you make an oath to? (the Constitution) Maybe you didn't take that oath seriously, but a lot of the guys in green hats did and I know for a fact that more than a few of them will not engage the American public. Most Sheriff's departments will not engage either. National Guard is ran by the state and I know at least Texas and Louisiana have laws impeding the federal government from infringing on our rights any more than they already have. Guess who at least those NG units will be loyal to?

When the second Amendment was written swords were the equivalent of assault rifles and rifles were like crew served machine guns. If you had the means to outfit a Schooner with 32 cannons you were free to do so. I cannot own an A10 so as far as what the forefathers think, they would probably think that the second amendment has been raped enough already. Take away one amendment how long till the rest go down with it. Sorry but the cold hard fact is that the price of freedom is blood no matter where you are in this world. I hate that these children died but its not the gun's fault the bastard shooting it was fucking sick.

ok so what if someone has a PHYSICAL (NOT MENTAL) disability that keeps them from enlisting? say like ankle problems or knee problems? would this keep them from owning guns? also what if they have have a disability with one of their arms that keeps them from holding or operating some types of guns?

i know a few people with ankle/knee problems that tried to enlist in the army but got cut because of it.

Not everyone in the military has to be a cold blooded killer. I am sure there is some kind of job that doesn't require you to be 100% healthy. Shit you could even outfit those people with the things they need to get better since military healthcare is better than the health care a lot of Americans get.

EXACTLY! the ban never changed anything. crime was the same! also what 85+% off all shoots are in gun free zones? malls/schools banks, some movie theaters. are all gun free zones yet shoots happen in those places.

Yeah I know where I stand on the issue.

I don't know if it's true or just an internet story, but I saw it on FB not on the news. The OR mall shooting was aparantly stopped by an armed civilian who took a defensive position on the gunman and he backed into a corner and killed himself.

Yeah, I took that oath, and then my country sent me off to a needless war that wasted 52,000 lives. I was young and unquestioning at that point. The constitution has been changed (by adding amendments that the writters of it did not address- like slavery). for the greater good of the nation. As far as the military taking action during your potential civil war, here is a Wiki posting that clears up a common misconception about the Posse Comitatus Act:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act

No one is really, at this point, threatening to come to your homes and take away our firearms. So you really can get over the thought of killing one of your neighbors, who may be a police officer, National Guard, or even US military member, that will show up at your home under orders to confiscate your weapons. As much as that thought seems to please some of you who wish to go down in a blaze of glory.

In every one of these debates about armed Americans, Israel and Switzerland are brought up. Please understand that those nations are small & mostly of the same mind, and their citizens are armed against a common enemy they may face. The USA is, compared to those nations, massive, divisive, and we arm ourselves against one another. So the comparison is nonsense. It is ignorant to make the argument. So don't look ignorant.

I don't even know why this even comes up to begin with. No one is proposing that happen nor would it ever. However for some reason many continue to think we will be in a position where guns will be completely banned and all owners will have to surrender their firearms.

It happened after katrina, just sayin.

And it isnt completely illogical to think some guns may be banned and have to be surrendered considering feinstein is trying to pass a bill very similar to what you are describing above regarding "assault" rifles, even though she has done this for years and it has never worked. But who knows, what if it did?
