Disable auto-dimming on rear view mirror?

I've searched and couldn't find anything, my apologies if this has been answered before...

Is there anyway to permanently disable the anti-dimming (anti-glare) feature built into newer rear view mirrors?

I know how to disable it by pressing the button, but that resets on each trip.

Maybe it's because I'm older and just have been driving for years without it, but I really find that when the mirror dims at night that visibility is poor for actually seeing traffic behind me -- as it's more difficult to make out what lanes cars are in and/or distance between vehicles, etc; so I generally turn it off.

I checked all the settings, and unless I'm missing something there's no way to easily disable the feature. Any mods out there? An easy setting I'm missing or overlooked?

put a piece of electrical tape over the sensor on the mirror side of the rear view mirror.

That should trick the mirror to always think there is no light coming from behind you so it should never dim.

You could always trade me your autodimming for my non autodimming mirror?

 

I never noticed any big difference with the back window (factory tint) closed. Is it just me?

 

When using that auto dimming mirror, just wait until you are in traffic and some bozo forgets to turn on his lights at night. Good chance you will not see him and may you may make a passing move only to clip the guy as he comes up on your side.

That happened to me once but I was lucky enough to avoid the crash.

 

could always just put limo tint on your rear window...

 

Anyone figure out how to disable this. I want to turn it on when I need it. Not turn it off every time I drive

 

Black electrical tape as what was answered in the second post to cover the sensor on the rearview mirror. That would be what I would do.
