Thanks Brandon! Oh man, this is not good news hearing you are still struggling with the vibes. I'm going back to the install shop to look it over. I also have my sway bar rubbing my skid plate bracket that needs attention. Definitely keep us posted and good luck.

 

This may be a stupid suggestion...but did you check your tire pressure? I remember a guy fighting with vibs for a while and turned out his psi was low. He had a 6inch on 35s

I also ready that some guy who had vibrations and put some sort of cv style shaft on it in stead of what ever Toyota switched to in the 05+ and that fixed his issues. That thread was a while ago and when i get to my laptop ill do some digging.....

I'm still in the middle of working through my vibration issues. Just a lot of trial & error methods going on right now to find a solution. If I find one, I'll be sure & post it for anyone out there having my same troubles. I wish I were you andercal with no issues... that would be great! PS - you have a great looking truck! That photo of it in the snow is awesome...

 

I tried everything! small carrier bearing spacers normal carrier bearing spacers large carrier bearing spacers.. degree shims up to 4 degrees...and I even tried a 1 piece driveshaft. still a vibration. Oh yeah and I did front wheel bearings they were shot too, It didn't help. I guess Ill be going back to a 2 peice drive shaft with a NEW NEW carrier bearing and try that out again

Hey Beastmode & sgtfluffy... I got all of my vibration issues worked out last night. Let me just say that with these vibration issues... I couldn't find any local driveline or off road companies that knew enough about this to be of any professional help. After a lot of wasted money & time. It just came down to me finding the right information & doing it myself. So I think I did the same thing you guys did. I've tried two different kinds of custom shafts - neither worked well enough for me to be satisfied as well as different spacers. And don't think you can live with vibrations, because it is solvable. Here is the route I took & it totally worked! I found out that the rear pinion output operates best when it is either parallel or a touch down from the transfer case output. I bought an angle calculator & measure the two. My rear pinion was 4 degrees too high - pointing up towards the bed when it was just sitting in park. This is exaggerated when you take off & drive as it goes even more into the upward direction. I solved this by adding a 4 degree shim to my back axle with the fat part of the shim towards the front part of the truck. Second I looked at the angle of my front drive shaft in relation to the angle of my rear drive shaft. I forget exactly how much, but they were at least two degrees apart or more (again used the angle calculator). From reading on TW about what a stock driveline likes to run at, I found that the magic number is somewhere between .01 & 1 degree off of perfectly straight. In order for me to get there, I had to add 8 washers on top of the spacer that RCD provided with the kit. I actually dropped my carrier bearing about 1-5/8". I took it out for a long test drive last night & it seriously rode better than it did the first day I bought it. What a relief!!!!!! I want to drive it a little bit more to make sure I'm totally happy with it, and then I'm either going to have a custom CB drop bracket made, or I'll just buy the 1.5" beefed taco & add a washer or two to get to the sweet spot. Oh, also for me to get to within 1 degree of totally straight, I also flipped my carrier bearing 180 degrees. This is the only way I could find to get within that range when working on it last night. I really hope this helps you guys & gives you some hope. I was so pissed during all of this, I was ready to trade my truck in & give toyota a big 'F' you for the rest of my life. If I can be of any help, please let me know. I know how frustrating this can be when you just want to be able to drive & enjoy your truck!

PS - I got this solution from reading a very smart guys post on this website named 'Badger'. I attached the link & go halfway down the page to see his explanation & results of driveline vibrations. I used his preferred option, which was in line with Toyota's stock method - it is option 1 of 3.

If I could have found Badger's write up about a month ago, I could have saved a ton of money & frustration! Keep me posted if this works for you... I hope it does!

 

Thanks for all your info. I have a complaint though you have your degree shim mounted in backwards? like the thickest part of the degree shim is facing your transfer case? If so and your driving around like that STOP!!! You are going to ruin your rear end. The diff is made to run and perform at a certain angle your bearings are oil bathed bearings and without proper lubrication they will wear out prematurely or cause other rear end issues. You may think you have it fixed temporarily but you will cause more issues in the long run. even though your vibration is gone with the pinion angle pitched so high its more then likely not giving your gears pinion and or bearings enough oil and will cause more damage then what a lil vibration will do during driving

 

My creaking issues have been diagnosed finally....it's the cam bolt on the drop bracket. There are splines on it that were mangled during install. Got a replacement going in tomorrow. From here on out I'm only posting pics in this thread. Not enough these days.

 

Dilema on what to do next:

a.) upgrade from my 32" tires to 33"

b.) custom Alcan rear leaf pack

c.) payoff credit card (least favorite option)

Go with the credit card option. Least fav but it's the right thing to do.

Then alcans of course. They are so smooth.

 

After 2 years of reading this thread, I finally got my hands on this kit and started to install it myself today! I started with the rear first and that alone took me 3 hours. I'm doing it in my garage with jack stands. I started it at 530 pm so I'm done for today, I'll tackle the front tomorrow. Forgot to take pics but snap some tomorrow.

 

Plan on another 6-8 hrs for the front if doing by yourself

 

I'm banking on 8 or 9. Im doing it myself with my Pops getting in the way.

 

Took me 11hrs total for my kit w me installing by myself

About the Alcans, how much they run? Was thinking about ordering a leaf pack but haven't researched it yet. Thanks bro!
