Just dropped my 2012 off to have them look at some stuff. Having the brake squeak fixed, the acceleration shutter looked at, and I have a whining/whirling noise coming from the rear end from 55-63 mph when coasting. The tech that did the ride along with me feels pretty confident about getting it all taken care of. I know the shutter probably wont be perfect but if it improves at all I'll be happy. I have had the brake squeak fixed once before so I'd like to see if since there is a TSB out, if it's a more permanent fix. The whirling noise from the rear end is my only major concern. Tech said they would probably start by replacing all the diff bearings.

I'll update when I get the truck back.

Keep us posted! My 2013 DCLB does all of those things, my biggest concern, like you is that whining/whirling noise coming from the rear end at high way speeds. I've had mine at the dealership once before for that issue and they told me it was normal, so I'm curious to see if your dealership is able to solve it. Thanks!

I just started to notice the whining noise from my rearend this past weekend on my '12. to me it sounds like mud tires humming, but the sound is only coming from the passenger rear.

If you're address is Long Island,
the dealer will probaby say it's water damage from Sandy.

the tech heard it in the ride along. they called and told me they have already ordered the diff carrier bearing (not the bearing carrier on the drive shaft) and they are replacing it tomorrow.

I dont think that's going to be an issue, there is no water damage and I never claimed that with my insurance company. the tech has said it's an issue they have seen before. the dealership im going to has the best service reviews within 100 miles and seems to be taking care of everything so far. and since they have already started ordering parts, i feel that they are taking responsibility for it

are you orange county NY or CA?

    competition toyota of long island

lol not a bro are you ;)

I figured as much, but I've got the time to let them try and fix it. I paid for the extended warranty so I might as well get my monies worth.

Should be getting the truck back today. I'll post up after I get it

Well the tech took it for a test ride and said he still felt a vibe he thinks he can adjust out of it. They are keeping it till tomorrow...

Well I just got it back. They replaced the rear drums and pads per the TSB so thats good.

They shimmed the drive shaft, slightly helped the accelerating vibe, still noticeable.
They installed an entire new rear end (and I mean everything, including the housing) still making the noise. They wanted to keep the truck but I need it for this weekend. They want me to bring it back after the new year and drop it off. The tech that worked on it seemed pretty cool. He was really interested in trying to fix it and seems like he has no problem spending toyotas money trying to. I think I am going to drop it off the first week in Jan, depending on the weather.
