Tacoma hecho in mexico?

I got into a 2009 tacoma because they are having some really good rebates.

It is made in Mexico. Any real difference in quality? It seems like a solid truck. If the factory workers have a similar work ethic as the people that do my lawn, this thing is going to last for ever.

 

First of all, I dont think there is any difference between Tacomas made in Mexico or USA, its the same brand, same principles, same quality....

The only difference i think its that Tacomas made in Mexico, or at least the ones that they distribute here already have the 4 leaf pack...

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I purchased my truck I asked the stealership where the truck was made. I had noticed the Tacomas coming over the border (I live in San Diego), but they were quick to mention that the composite beds are manufactured, assembled and installed on the Tacomas in Mexico. Then they come back across the border. There are no Tacomas that are 100% assembled in Mexico for the US. I'm also hispanic and was curious to know... not that I'm lazy or anything, but was curious if quality would be an issue (sort of like the VW Jetta for a while).

I think there's some validity to the OP's question.

When the Mexico plant first opened, I read an article that explained the differences between Mexico and NUMMI, or Japan, for that matter.

Mexico has (or had) very little automation. Components normally assembled by robots are done by hand in Mexico.

Toyota's Mexico plant won a quality award recently. I think it was from JD Power & Associates.

 

I don't think there is anything "wrong" with the original question...People are too "politically correct" now a days...I didn't see any post that had the word "****" in it, that is surely inappropriate.

I think my '88' 4-Runner was made in Japan...I was bummed when I found out my '03' Tacoma was made in the US. I would have been more bummed had I found out my '09' Tacoma was made in Mexico...I wish that they were both made in Japan !

It is funny... The company I work for has a plant in Texas and guys from down there tell me that Mexicans are teriffic workers...Plus I know from living in the US that many of the people I work with are lazy bums.

I think it is just the predjuices we grew up with. I'd bet that the Californians that made my truck were mostly Mexicans anyway.

I doubt there'd be any issue, they still go through an inspection anyway. Also, if my truck as (it's not, sacramento) I'd totally put a picture of Bender on the back.

I only asked because BMW had some quality issues with their South African plant when it opened. I dont suspect the same with Toyota. Just looking for opinions.

The article I read about Toyota's Mexico plant said these jobs were the best in the area...highly competitive with good wages. Toyota even pays for their lunch and provides transportation to and from work.

If that's true, I can't see any Mexicans slacking off on the job.

The metal they use in mexico is thinner and cheaper to buy.....also the frame is not as beefy as american made............
