Well i just had an interesting phone call. A while ago, shortly after i joined this site, someone posted a link to the Federal Transportation Dept to complain about any problems, specifically safety concerns, with my truck. I dont remember what the form was called or where the link is but i vaguely remember filing a complaint. I mentioned the slight driveline vibration as well as the "surge" after stopping with the AC on. I didnt really think they were safety concerns but i wanted Toyota to fix the problem so i figured i would take the 3 mintues it took to fill the thing out. Anyway, i completely forgot about it, until i got a phone call from some dude in Washington.

Apparently somebody wrote a formal complaint to the Federal Transportation Dept. in D.C. and requested that the safety of the 06, 07 Tacomas be formally investigated due to the surge. So they are looking over these complaints and flying all over America to investigate the problem by having the owners reproduce the problems. They said they already had an appointment to see a guy about 30 minutes from me on March 12 and said they'd like to drop by and see how my truck behaves. Depending on what they find tehy will start a formal investigation. So in short this is a pre-investigation investegation.

Anyway, i told the guy that i didnt think there were any safety concerns but he could come ride in my truck if he wanted to. I said it was just a ride characteristic and that the surge with the AC on was not strong enough to actually move teh truck as long as your foot was on the brake, but if you were lazy and just had your foot lightly resting on teh brake you might move an inch or so.

I thought this may have something to do with the lawsuit that retard with the manual is trying to start but he told me that this investigation was for the auto's only. Although he did say there was a very long list of complaints for the 6 speed manual. apparently there are alot of complaints filed against the manual.

I also mentioned the vibration. He said that the "surge" and vibraton were the two most mentioned complaints for the 2nd gen Taco's. He said the vibration will not be investigated since it is not a safety concern but that one guy specifically mentioned a fix but that he couldnt tell me what it was. I said i was a member of a Tacoma forum and that there were lots of fixes mentioned, such as the 1 piece driveshaft, shims, and lots of grease. he laughed and told me that the fix that toyota issued one guy were just shims for the rear diff to help with the angles. So anyway, i just thought tht was interesting and let you guys know that if you filed a complaint you may be contacted by a bonafied Washington man who wants to ride in your truck :)

Make sure to at least run a vacuum on his side. I wouldn't want Washington to get crabs.

BTW, i forgot to mention something. I did recently have one incident that was a little un-nerving. Last week, i was slowly cruising hte work parking lot looking for a good spot. I didnt have my foot on the pedals at all. then when i went to turn around at the end of a row i put my foot on the brake and the truck surged forward. much more aggressively than it does with the AC on. I have no idea why but the engine definatly reved a little. i wear boots when i'm at work so its entirely possible part of my sole hit the gas and gave it a little juice without me ever feeling my foot on the gas pedal. but as soon as i applied the brakes it stopped trying to take off. i'd say the acceleration lasted about 2 seconds, 3 seconds at most.

Its only happened once and is entirely possible that it was my own fault but it was still a little scary. Since it was a one time thing and it could have been operator error, i never said anything to the dealer but if it happens again i'll defiantely complain. i told the Washington guy about it and said that i cant be sure if it was me or the truck but it only happened once and was easily controlled.

I guarantee you washington has more crabs than SC. Besides, we dont have to worry about crabs here in SC, crabs are too weak to survive all the other STD's we have. After years of inbreading regular crabs dont stand a chance to our mutant inbred crabs. We call 'em Carolina Lobsters, they're so big you only have room for one :)

wow, it didnt take long for this thread to get completely side tracked...

    getting there....
is your truck shifting normally?? and even if it is...i have heard of people basically saying the same thing you did, and they had their transmission fluid checked. the fluid was maybe a quart low...the dealer added a quart and the problem stopped. maybe something to think about next time you are at the dealer for something.

Its shifting fine but i guess i could check my trans fluid. where's the resevour? Like i said, the only one that caught me off guard could have been my own fault. if it happens again i'll try to be more attentive to what i'm doing

I wouldn't even let you in the bed of my truck. Everyone knows that you Canadians stink to high heaven (just like your French bretheren) and once that Canadian stink sets in you can never get rid of it. As far as being my nemesis, you're more like a gnat at a picnic. A nemisis is usually someone imposing or threatening..... but your Canadian so..... you're neither one of those things. You're just a pest i have to deal with on a daily basis

You're starting to make about as much sense as dan, i have no idea what your talking about. But it sounds like treason to me. Thats a second trial in front of the tribunal. You bring this on yourself hodge. I dont know why you feel the need to challenge the "King of the Carolinas" (thats my new self given title)
