iPad mini in a 2nd gen?

Yeah frickin hinges are on back order I'm trying to find another source for them as soon as I do it'll be done!

Im definitely interested. A few questions...

1.So you would need a headunit stashed somewhere in the dash and run the lightening connector to it for the audio out? correct? I have a double din nav/dvd unit now but would be willing to go with a smaller single din and hide it in the dash.

Next , How are you mounting the lightening connector so that it lies up every time you slide the ipad in and whats done to keep it from becoming dislodged?

I have at least 1 double din dash kit, I would be interested in you doing this. i like that camo dip you have...

 

If you look in the video you can see the lightning connector is permanately installed into the side of the kit. I used a high grade bonding agent to install it....I couldn't remove it now if I wanted to yes the end of my lightning connector is a USB which my single din has an input for so I will be hiding my radio either behind the kit or in front of the shifter in that little useless cubby space which I will make a plate out of abs for a perfect fit and will sell that as an option will be pretty cheap (probably $10 or so) I have made that plate before for a set of tweeters I used to have down there and it looks really good I have a pic somewhere ill upload! Orrrrr I will have as an option lightning on one end and USB AND audio out on the other if you don't want to have a deck and want to run it off your factory speakers with a line output converter or run the left/right directly into an aftermarket amp. I will have all options as complete 100% plug and play options at your choice! It's gonna be open the box and mount two screws on the inside for the hinges which will be attached to the kit when it arrives at your door! Keep the questions coming I need feedback so I can get this right for all involved.....I have a list of about 15+ already

 

definitely interested in this. been following from the start just haven't said anything. I'm close to buy a new HU. So hope you get this finished soon. So we can see the final product =)

Literally any unit with a usb input on the back of the unit not on the front! That way it will both charge the unit and send the audio over to it! Simple......very simple

you have some good ideas. realistically though, it will probably not be feesible until metra or GTA makes a dash kit with all the wiring harnesses to support it. im not interested if i have to run another head unit behind it... the technology is there to make this happen, and to make it work very well as its own head unit. unfortunately, its a waiting game at this point. as nice of a job as soundman does, im sure he is charging the better half of your left testicle to do this, and only really available to the west coast.

 

You do not have to have a seperate deck.....i am doing this in my own personal truck but i will assume others will not want this option rather run the output to LOC or directly into an amp. Metra cannot and will not house a deck and ipad mini in a dash kit.....theres just not enough room for it to look good....my list of buyers grows by 5+ everyday so theres.obviously some people out there who think it is feasable but trust me all of these obstacles i have thought about and overcame and please stay tuned for the next video!
