Took truck into dealership to get the blower motor fixed as well as a few other minor problems. Long story short, dealership had my truck for the last 2 days. Upon picking my truck up today around 5:30, I was in a hurry to head home and make a few stops on the way home. Upon arriving home I checked my storage bins to make sure all my tools were still there as well as my center console and my glove box, stuff was all good. I checked the drinks wells in the drivers side door where I store an spare XD 40 magazine fully loaded wrapped up in a beanie, well the magazine was gone. By the time I realized this and called the dealership, the lady who answered the phone told me all management had left for the night and if I wanted to talk to the service manager I would have to call back in the morning.

What would you do if you were in this situation? Would you just chalk it up as a lesson learned and remove any valuables next time you have to take your truck in for any kind of service, or would you call the dealership and report the theft and then also report the theft to the local PD?

I believe I would do both. Take it up with the dealership and next time you go anywhere to have any work done remove valuables. Just my $.02

I'd definitely go back and get it, or an explanation. taking a loaded mag is sketchy stuff

if they stonewall you, I'd see what advice the PD gives you

and don't leave stuff in there :anonymous:
I always go through my truck before bringing it in for service if it needs it

Do your diligence and call, but don't expect much. I lost a backpack and some Nikes in a similar way and "no one saw it."

Talk to dealership management and local PD (with report) where it happened. Be polite, but firm with dealership management.

if they have a sign that says "not responsible for lost or stolen items", might as well take it as a lesson because they will point to that sign more than likely..

Call the dealership and inform them that you are going to call the police after you get off the phone with them. You'd be amazed how many management types turn out to have phone numbers that allow them to be reached after they have left the office.

And seriously, call the police, who knows what that turd plans to do with your magazine and your ammunition. maybe reference recent headlines.

    stock, for now
someone saw a novelty, figured you would never use it. I'd definatelty go back, just don't expect much.

In light of recent happenings, be prepared to have all neccessary paperwork ready when you tell the police you had a fully loaded mag in your truck, and it was stolen.

lol you're on the right track, before anything, get your panties up in a bunch and consider yourself a victim.

    wait...

call back in the morning, perhaps the tech moved your stuff and missed putting something back... accidents happen, they are just people.

What other repairs where being done to the truck? Any reason for an employee to put it away in safe keeping to prevent damage, or could it have presented as a safety concern at all, and moved during the repair? Maybe it was put aside and not yet put back. Not likely, just hoping there are decent people left in this world.

go back and talk to them and if they don’t do anything call the cops.

if it was just an ipod or something i may not call the cops but with it being a loaded mag, and sounds like a bunch of other stuff. i would call the cops.

The other work being performed had to do with the rear end. As stated, the magazines were wrapped up inside a beanie so they were not visible, plus I place a pair of gloves on top of the beanie. Someone had to do some digging around to find these magazines because you don't just find them by accident.

The fact that you had a loaded magazine hidden out of sight first off is pretty dumb. Also almost every public building has signs posted about no guns and such. This very likely will come around and bite you in the ass. Yes the person who took it was wrong, but you also shouldn't of had it in the truck at the time also. My $0.02

dealers around here do not have no gun signs and most places do not. only places we legally can’t carry(other than like city buildings and such) are bars. also can’t be in possession of a gun if you are drunk/ or drinking.

Just got a call from the service manager. He stated they have security camera's inside their bays as well as the lots where vehicles are stored. He said he would review the security camera footage tomorrow and wanted to reassure me he is taking a theft like this very serious in light of the recent shooting nation wide.

This is Arizona, pretty much only place I can't carry into are federal buildings and any businesses that are clearly posted. This dealership was not posted.

Firearms and Ammo are up to the purchaser to keep in their possession or in a locked storage if you are not around to supervise.

I know you likely forgot but as I see it the PD would probably be unhappy you left it there unattended.

Either way the chances of getting it back are slim to none unless the person that took it wants to man up and loose their job but thieves do not man up.

But another mag soon since it will likely be banned in the near future since XD's can carry 10+

I know ultimately I am to blame for not removing it when I dropped the truck off. I had lots of stuff on my mind and didn't remember it was hidden in there.

It was a 10 round for a SC with a pearce extension on it, so I'm out about $40 plus the cost of the ammo.
