I'd comment on this, but according to others, I'm not qualified to say even though I've been through this ordeal.

It's a sealed transmission. Needs fluid changing every 100,000kms, or when you accidentally drain it instead of the oil. I have no idea if it can be changed at home, but all evidence I've come across suggests it needs to be done at a mechanics.

Sealed means "sealed." Toyota did this to keep us out of them & probably has good reason. It's not serviceable. Or is it??

I went to the dealer to get my trans fluid changed on my 06 and they pretty much tried to discourage me from doing it. They told me that they will do it but they will need the truck all day because they have to wait till the fluids cool down to a certain temp to drain and refill at a cost of $225. I have 105k miles on mine not sure if I should go ahead and do it or not....any recomendations?

Take the service/maintenance booklet in with you & show them that it calls for it to be changed at 100k. You might get them to see it your way if you pull the "Chris4x4 B-Day cake mod." on them too.:D

Rather then start another thread ill ask here. Is $250 a good price for a auto trans flush and fill?

I'd replace any other fluids on my truck and even dig into the engine myself if I had to but one thing I'd never do is try to perform a correct transmission flush unless I had a transmission flush machine (or whatever it is they use)

There are 2 drain bolts on the trans pan. Actually one is to drain, and one is to check the fill level. Inside the pan, the fill level hole has a tube that sticks up as his has the fluid should be. But how do I fill the fluid you ask? From the upper bolt out of 2 at the rear of the torque converter. Drain it when its around 98 to 114 degrees F and fill until the fluid starts to pour out of the fill level hole on the pan.

The only thing special the dealer has that you probably don't, is an all inclusive scanner that gives you the ATF temp data, but you can honestly wing it and be just fine
