do yourself a favor get a GunVault NV300. It fits in both your glove box and your arm-rest box. Its easy to get to, 3 digit combo. Its got a fairly hefty cable you can EASLY secure. I have one in every vehicle. cant take my carry in? it goes in the box. oh and it fits a XD-45 Service, so you can keep darn near whatever you want in it. Consider this a small investment and yourself lucky they didn't take your 500 XD that has your name linked to it.

also another reason i would call the cops is the guy(maybe a girl) had to go looking for this stuff. it’s not like it was on the back seat or floor board, they had to do some looking and digging for it.

Having a box of shotguns shells in my opinion is different than a loaded mag. Especially one that is hidden away. The only times I hide away ammo is when I go hunting, I have shotshells in a plastic container with my gear but the gun is in its case inside the cab on the back seat. I don't have a conceal carry so I don't know the precise laws for pistols and ammo for them. Just don't feel the need to take a gun with me everywhere I go since most places don't allow them anyway.

yeah. i have a box of 20G shell behind back seat. if i’m going squirrel hunting i just set my gun on the back seat unloaded no case or anything.

i know OH is kinda strict on the CC laws and places you can carry them. all states have different laws. TN you can carry pretty much any where, or have a gun hidden just about any where in your car or truck.

I think there is a lesson here for everybody: Keep your valubles out of the vehicle when it is in someone elses hands and out of your sight. I always have, and never had a problem.

I heard a story of a local Toyota mechanic getting fired for working on a car(a favor for a friend) off the clock using the bay...they used the footage from the bay camera's as reason to fire him for breaking the rules...

I think on the bottom line, the dealership's take this stuff(which can be documented and used legally) very seriously.

Good on you for having ammo stored properly, out of your reach, and really good on you for catching the theft!

Those pocket safes with the hand shaped key pads work wonders for security small stuff like mags - maybe time to look into one?

I know for fact the magazine was not misplaced, I have searched every range bag I have and am still missing 1 magazine for a XD sc. I am 100% positive it was in my truck, and after the service it was missing.

Waiting for service manager to review security camera footage today and get back to me.

Do fingerprints stay after a casing is ejected? I always remove the important stuff if I ever take my vehicle to a dealership. Even pocket knives

Exactly. I always notify my customers that if they are going to leave a vehicle here, they need to remove all valuables and firearms from their vehicle.

If the waiver is placed in a conspicuous place it IS a legal defense. I have signs all over my shop entrance. It was required by my shopkeepers insurance policy, and my lawyer.

Let's hope that it is located and hopefully something simple rather than a theft. I hate when a shop has a thief. It brings a bad name to the company.

Rich, you mean to tell me that if I have a sign saying I might murder you if I see you will not get me off the charges?

I'm always amazed at the rock haulers with the "stay back xxx feet, not responsible for damage". Some people must fall for it...

So in general (as the dealership is charging you and is a for profit corp) in most cases, they would need to take reasonable care. But, so do you as the owner...even if you could win, I'm guessing it's not worth it.

I'd report it to the dealership & ask to be reimbursed. I'd also let the dealership know you are filing a police report.

Most important, I would learn not to ever leave anything of value in my vehicle

Whether you have to or not, whether its law or not, leaving an unlocked, loaded mag in your truck isn't a bright idea. Think about it, some stupid kid gets a hold of live ammo and throws it in a fire...bad things. Like everybody else said, in general I wouldn't leave anything even slightly valuable in your truck if you know it's going to be at the dealer. I just assume everybody's a crook and if it isn't nailed down it'll be stolen.

Comparing your proposed sign to a liability protection sign is like apples to oranges. The non-liable signs are a means of protecting our businesses from people making any claim that they want. If not protected in this way, anyone could come in and claim that they had a $1500 laptop in their car when it came in, and expect a replacement. And yes, it does happen. The anti-liability sign is the only legal recourse a business has to protect itself. Otherwise we couldn't afford the insurance rates.

    IMAG0351_zps8a6b2e54_5bacdb2e1acf22d8a63829890892abdd2d577b84.jpg

This being said, a business is still liable IF you can prove that they were directly the cause of the loss or damage (i.e. you can PROVE in court that an employee stole something, or you can prove that the dealership/shop CAUSED the damage) If you pull into my shop, and you hit a car, it is on YOU, not on my business, to repair the other car.
