Got in a wreck last night....or rather, a guy wrecked into me. We have a road where cops regularly direct traffic around 5-6pm when everyone gets off work at this office building complex on Inwood Rd. Well the car in front of me slowed down like the cop was telling him to stop. I stopped. Guy behind me didn't.

Impact that I felt was minimal. I heard it and felt a nudge. I wasn't even sure if someone had hit me or if the AC compressor just kicked in again. What sucks is I've driven this truck forever and I NEVER have the tailgate down unless I have the Kayak in the back. Well I had it down last night. Got a little scuffed up but it's pretty much ok. Bumper has some scratches and dents too. :(

But at the end of the day the other driver, the Tacoma and I are all just fine...which is more than I can say for his Scion TC.

    Holy fuck LOL

I can't even really tell anything is wrong with the tailgate, save for the top corners. Did it do anything to the mounts?

Not sure yet. I really haven't had time to assess things just yet. I need to get under there and take more detailed pictures. I really think the towing package hitch saved my ass....literally.

At first I thought maybe the tailgate peeled back his hood and the bumper/hitch took out his grill, but now I'm thinking the tailgate would have been too high for his low car to hit it like that. Must have been the bumper/hitch that tore through everything and the tailgate just kind of laid down on his hood. Plus with all the talk about our weak tailgates I'd assume it would have crumbled also if it was hit directly.

Agreed. I think the tailgate just slid up over it. It actually popped out of the hinge on the right side but I was able to slide it back in no problem. It fits/closes ok too. I gotta go out and check the gaps between the bed and the cab later today.

If my truck were a person I would NOT want to fight him.

In July I demolished a 2012 Altima with my Tacoma. I had zero damage, and the car had close to $10K worth of damage.
