Nice, man. But that will be the limit... especially with the 2.7L.

    Ghey...
    Thanks for the explanation, man.

I did read about Phil's situation. I didn't miss that at all... The double row bearing prevents the coupler from wobbling around and creating intense vibration. But from other threads and posts I looked at, it seemed like the short shaft itself and the giving nature of the case are also to blame for wearing down the splines under high stress/torque... Is that wrong? So is the only reason the shaft is compareativley weak due to not enough spline engagement? How are these shafts typically broken? Sheared splines? Snapped shaft? I've never seen it happen in person...

If you we're to just build your truck right, and then drive it with the thought that its got to get you home you'll be surprised at the trails you can tackle without breaking stuff.

At the same time can you really over kill a crawler??

Snapped shaft if anything on wheelers, I know I've heard of a couple stories but don't remember grave detail. The type of wear you are talking about would happen with any 1st gen ever sold, including ones street driven and never taken offroad. I really don't think Toyota would build something that would wear the splines down over time without addressing it as a problem. Sure, splines wear in and burnish but NOT to the extent that Phill had. His problem was clearly crawl box related.

How come you don't want to move the tank? It's in the way and still gets smashed even when SAC. Sometimes you can't avoid hitting it.

So ideally I should try and get ahold of a manual locking front Dana 60. Should I still get this late model rear? It has disks and the casing seems beefier than the older ones.

Because this is my DD and shop truck so it needs to have a full bed i can't be moving the tank to the bed. And I camp a lot and I'm running out of room as it is so the tank needs to stay.

Got a little grinding done while my buddy (eltacocaliente) was working on the other side. Should have the frame rails smooth after tomorrow.

I will say Toyota never intended for that shit to come off. Oh and I think they used a 3 year to weld everything, straight up booger/ bird shit welds. It does make a nice sound when It hits the floor.

For my preferances yes go with the older gen axle but awsumdc is running a newer style and has no issues it's really its up to you honestly i don't like them but for a taco they would be plenty strong.

I took this pic this afternoon truck pulled into the shop and with a "Funny noise" according to the customer i drove it sounded like a wheel bearing jacked it up and had a loose front left tire put a bearing on it problem solved. The millage on the truck is 99,358 guy bought the truck from an old man that drove it twice a year to haul horses(he lucked out). Thought it was wild that one came in like an hour after we were talking about it... Im gonna say this doesnt matter how big or what it is if you dont know how to use it failure will occure before its due time and all moving parts wear. I guess my beef with the unibearing is i cant survice it and the cost of replacement. ive said my peace ill leave it at that.

Soooo a couple questions in regards to relocating the gas tank...

    1. I assume 'A' is the check valve?

    2. What the hell is 'B'?

    3. Can I relocate 'C' underneath the tank or somewhere else on the truck, or does it have to be on top?
