Shop labor rates around here are close to $100/hr so they're charging 1/5 of an hour (12 minutes) to change your cabin air filter. Granted, I wouldn't pay $22 for someone to do that for me but, if you take your vehicle to a shop for them to perform work, they don't do it for free. This is why it pays to do your own work.

quality of workmanship? they didnt do any work, and had they changed the cabin air filter, they STILL wouldnt have done ANY work. in order to complain about workmanship there has to be some work done... pickin up what im puttin down? i know you work/worked at a dealership, but come on, you know better. the service advisor couldnt even look me in the eye while he was telling me this.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Falmouth Toyota. Jesse and brian and everyone else in the service department are awesome. Brian is their resident lift expert, knows a lot, also fun to talk with. Since my truck is still under warranty these are the only guys I trust with my truck when I can't do it myself. They've always gone above and beyond with addressing my needs when I have them.

Sorry the dealer you went to wasn't any good mike

yea i hear you, i bought my truck and her car from grappone toyota in bow NH, and i love them. always great to deal with, and fair. which i feel like is half the battle with dealerships nowadays man. if the people who you gave 40k+ dollars to for 2 cars cant be honest, you have a problem. i shouldve just waited and took it to grappone next week... :notsure:

she has the pre-paid maintenance, so i fugured i'd take advantage of it... its hard to believe a cabin air filter isnt covered under pre-paid maintenance, since its a maintenance item with a date/rotation to be changed out, and its a piece of paper...

Your lucky they didnt put it in without asking lol and then charge you for it. Have you had bad experiences with this dealer before? They are a business they are just trying to make money, do you think they are full of shit and you dont need a new filter at all?

I have the pre paid maintenance plan plan but they still try to charge me for oil changes everytime. Lol, if it wasnt free i wouldnt be bringing it there for an oil change. I also bring it in for every recomend service interval, and somehow they only have a record of one out of 4, which sucks, one of the main reasons i do it is to have the service record.

I doubt air filters are covered under the service plan either. Things like that are 100% dependant on how/where you drive your vehicle. If you travel dusty roads, you could be changing them out monthly or, if you're like me and travel mostly on the road, annually at best. The maintenance guide just says inspect, they never tell you when to change them out.

Sadly, most people don't pay attention to things like this and just fork over the $40 and never think twice about it.

Meh, I just blow mine out with compressed air. When it gets bad, I change it. You can find them for $8 online so I'd rather just toss it.

Oh yeah, Mike, you can find that filter really cheap online. That part pisses me off more than the labor charge. It's generally cheaper for me to order parts from Camelback Toyota in Arizona and have them shipped than it is to drive to a local dealership and buy them in person.

Is that legal? I wouldn't pay for it if they did that to me.

we drive it alot, but on pavement... there arent that many dirt roads where we live, even though were not in a city. idk, like i said, i was just taken back because i felt like they were trying to pull one over on me, then thought about all the older people/women out there who have no fucking idea, and pay that amount of money, when it isnt even needed. im sure sometimes they say its due to be replaced when its not, charge that money to some poor sap, and never change it because it didnt need it in the first place... just irritating that people trust these "experts" and all they do is jam it into them without even spitting on it or giving a reach around...

My wife went to a Jiffy Lube and they did the air filter schtick. In their defense, the filter really did need to be replaced.

Them "This is your air filter" *has some leaves on it*
Her "Can you tap it on the ground? I'm just wondering what will come off of it"
Them *taps filter, some crap comes out*
Her "OK that looks good enough for now, you can toss it back in"

Bitch! HAHA..then I changed it that weekend.

You know what's even more irritating? I doubt they even checked your cabin air filter to begin with.

yeah i was thinking about that dude. when i was checking out, or waiting for the service record to print, literally every advisor was telling people on the phone that their "pollen" filter needed replacement... BS. i do all my own work on my truck, and as soon as her car is off the prepaid maintenance i will do all the work on that as well...

she actually wants a tacoma, and i want an FJ, so i might be able to convince her to take my truck, trade her car in for a trail teams FJ, and have the best of both worlds
