HELP! Turn off Door Chirp - 2009 - 2011 Tacoma's - Can't Understand Instructions

I'm wondering if I can get some help from those who have been able to turn off the beeping noise when using the key fob to unlock or lock the doors on the 2009-2011's.

I know there have been several threads on this but for the life of me I cannot get the instructions to work nor am I certain that I even understand them.

These are the most complete set of instructions I could find. Other people have said by following these instructions they got it to work.

(a) Open the driver side door and insert the key into the ignition cylinder.
(b) Remove the key from the ignition cylinder and, within 5 seconds, reinsert the key and turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) After 10 seconds, the system enters answer-back buzzer switching mode.
(d) Within 10 seconds after answer-back buzzer switching mode is started, if a transmitter button (the same button) is pressed twice, the answer-back buzzer setting changes (off to on, or on to off) to activate or disable answer-back by buzzer.

HINT:

The driver side door is closed.
The ignition switch is turned off.
The key is removed from the ignition cylinder.
A transmitter button is not pressed for 10 seconds after answer-back switching mode is started.
The transmitter is operated but the second button pressed is different from the first.
Answer-back starts.

OK this is what I don't understand, in the first block of text the OP states to follow once set of steps and then after the HINT portion says the opposite. WTF? Am I reading this wrong? I tried the first set of steps several times but to no avail.

Can anyone provide some useful advice? Thanks!

 

I know this is an old post, but some clarification may help either you or someone else who reads this post. I added the parts in BOLD RED below:

(b) Remove the key from the ignition cylinder and, within 5 seconds, reinsert the key and turn the ignition switch to ON (KEEP THE IGNITION TURNED ON).
(c) After 10 seconds (WAIT FOR 10 SECONDS), the system enters answer-back buzzer switching mode.
(d) Within 10 seconds after answer-back buzzer switching mode is started, if a transmitter button (the same button) is pressed twice (PUSH THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE TWICE WITHIN 10 SECONDS), the answer-back buzzer setting changes (off to on, or on to off) to activate or disable answer-back by buzzer.
DONE - TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND CLOSE THE DOOR.

This worked for me the first time on my 2010 Tacoma Pre-Runner. No more chirp when locking and unlocking the doors via the remote control key fob.

I'm not sure if it will work on 2012. It would not hurt to try it though, good luck.

You don't actually get "codes". It just turned off the chirp. I noticed it no longer chirped afterwards. Good luck.

why not just unplug the beeper??

 

From what i've read, it should also work on the 2012. Bummer that it did not work for you.

I used this method (on my 2010) because I don't have to modify or unplug anything. This option is designed into the truck's computer system, so why not take advantage of it. I'm not sure about the 2012 though, but I've read that it should work. If not, unplugging the beeper may be a viable option, provided it can be located.

It works on a 2012 also.

At least it did on mine..

 

1. lift hood
2. push fob button
3. listen for and find buzzer ... clue: it looks like this and is up by radiator, driver's side



4. unplug buzzer

Anyone know where the wires are for that buzzer at in the cab? I need to splice into them and connect them into the Viper 4105v module, instead of that factory horn, which is totally annoying.
