Crime in general, naturally, I wouldn't argue that. But I don't think your basic person who falls on hard times and may get caught up in things they shouldn't is along the same lines as these mass killing sprees. I mean if you're mentally unhinged, you're mentally unhinged. Not like had the economy never crashed, and this family never got divorced, this kid wouldn't have went off the deep end and did something like this, or shot up a movie theater, or shot up a college, etc. It's kind of an apples to oranges comparison IMO.

I mean sure, to your argument, you'll have your disgruntled employee who gets fired and comes in and kills his boss or something. But I'd have to believe if you're capable of doing that it's just a matter of time before you do something like that regardless of losing a job, having money issues, etc.

I guess it could be a provoking factor for those people but I know I've lost a job a couple times and it never once occured to me to go in and kill someone over it. I think if you have that underlying problem brewing if it's not one thing that triggers it, it something else. It's why I don't buy the whole blaming video games or something on these things. If someone goes out and kills a bunch of people after playing Call of Duty or goes out and kills a hooker after Grand Theft Auto, you were probably going to come unhinged one day anyway.

Sorry, got a little off subject there lol

and they cant. they cannot make an arrest unless for felony level crimes. you do know that MOST crimes are not felonies right? especially in a school system...

Yes, but not armed teachers. Schools should have one or more officers armed.

Since middle school we've had an SRO (school resource officer). We nicknamed the new SRO at our high school "muscles" because this dude looks freaking BEEF, he is cool too.
I think our schools pretty safe cause this dude is so massive he could punch through you.

So essentially everyone will want to send their kid to the cream school , which will mean not everyone will get in , only those with the most " vouchers "

So essentially the rich kids are protected , the poor kids are not

We are talking about protecting schools and preventing mass shootings. We are not talking about petty crimes.

dude you have no idea what youre talking about. its not very often you have school shootings..... like once in a lifetime.... why spend money on hiring someone who can only walk around the school and intimidate people? that is my question? they can only make arrests for felonies that occur in their site. theyd have to see an armed robbery, a rape, a murder in order to make an arrest. you could have a police officer who can do all that AND investigate crimes happening at the school, make relationships with troubled kids who have shit homelives, investigate cases of child abuse and make arrests for that, its way more beneficial to have a POLICE OFFICER in the school than to hire any tom dick or harry to walk around like a tough guy for 8hrs a day and intimidate the fucking kids into not wanting to go to school. fuck sakes, you dont even live in this country and youre going to tell us how to do things? -_-

Instead of having an officer stay full-time at a school, what if the local police departments set up a system where an officer is assigned to each school in the area and they are required to spend around an hour each day at the school they are assigned to? It wouldn't be like a set time each day, the officer could go at a random time at their convenience. It's probably a really stupid and pointless idea, but it seems like a good compromise in my head.

I think what's making people hesitant about this decision is simply the words "security" and "armed" being used together. Security guards already have a really really bad rep, and thats because many of these idiots take an online class that they hardly passed, applied for some BS company that said said "do you have any experience?" ... "no?".... "perfect your hired!" Many guards have no freaking clue what they are doing and people know this.

BUT! That does not mean that ALL security is this incompetent. I personally am an armed security guard. People talk shit, its fine with me, I'm over it. But my point is that I personally am very well trained. Am I as good or knowledgeable as a cop? Hell no. But am I properly trained, yes! I have active shooter, tactical and hand-hand training, officer safety techniques and training, and much more. A degree in Criminal Justice and a knowledge base that is very useful. I am no super hero save the world academy wash out. Its just a job, and I enjoy it and am prepares for it.

On the contrary, I saw a new new hire who I still don't know how he even passed these exams that are basic common sense. This was his conversation with another guard:
    -does your gun have bullets?
-umm, it has rounds in it, yes...
-so if you had to shoot somebody, its ready to shoot?
-umm, I dont want to shoot anyone, but if I had to, then yes its ready to fire
-sooo, where can I buy bullets from?

... this idiot didn't even know where to buy ammo, let alone load and fire the weapon. Needless to say, he is no longer employed.

My point being is that I believe with more strict training, qualifications, certifications, and hiring process, that there is nothing wrong with have "armed security" at schools. I know how and when to safely and effectively handle, deploy, and use my firearm and keep it safe from others as well. I am not alone, and with the right guidelines and restrictions, the right people can be hired to do this job. I qualify every 6 months, and regularly attend various types of training classes, for not only my own safety, but also for the safety of those I protect.

People are too quick to judge I think.

incorrect. not sure you understand what a voucher is.

vouchers are equal for each kid.

if there is a market...many more cream schools will open.

you may not understand the American public school system...how it's financed...and how vouchers would give less fortunate (not rich) kids the oppertunity to go to a better school.

    you have it backwards.

currently wealthy kids can already go to private schools should the parents choose. its the non wealthy who are stuck w/o choice.

If your worried about how we would pay, how about have them do paper work that would otherwise be done by a desk jockey, it's not like they would be patrolling the halls 24/7.

When i was in high school we had a cop that would rotate between schools, I'm not sure how he made it more dangerous as some people say it would.

I wouldn't want any security guard but a leo or have some different standard for a security guard to work at a school.

Dude you have no idea what you'r talking about.
Why do you assume that security guard would only intimidate people? Have you had bad experiences?
They could build relationships with troubled kids who have shit home lives. They could turn evidence of abuse over to the police. Make arrests for child abuse since its a felony.
I'm not telling you how to do things, I'm simply suggesting ideas. However you seem blinded by your ways of doing things.

I hope you are not this adamant, and stubborn and angry about everything else in your life.

To add to the question of financing, at the schools in my district w had what were basically security guards, if we can pay for them to stand around and bust kids for ditching why not an actual leo, I'm sure it would help with a lot more issues than just shootings.

they cant investigate and make arrests for crimes that dont happen in front of them. so no they cant make arrests for child abuse, nor would they. im just saying, not being a dink, just saying, that having a police officer in the school is more beneficial as there are more tasks a police officer can do than a security guard. you cant argue with that, you cant. in the US, security guards cannot do as much as police officers. that is off topic, but im telling you. its my opinion, and i realize an opinion is like an orgasm, in that mine matters most and idc if you have one, that i would NOT want a security guard in the school, for me, it would HAVE to be a police officer.
