i see what hes saying, but i dont think it will ever happen. basically instead of tax dollars going to the public school system, they go to a child in the form of a voucher, worth x amount of tax dollars. when that childs family chooses a school to enroll said child, that school would collect x amount of tax dollars from the voucher provided for that child. this would eliminate paying tuition for kids to go to better public schools in the next town over, and what larry is saying is that if this were to happen, it would force the not so good schools to better themselves and try to compete with schools that kids want to go to, or shut down completely and expand the better schools, providing an all around better education system. bascially it will just eliminate the shitty schools, and expand the good schools as kids would carry vouchers to the good schools with them and that school would generate more income to expand.... if you catch what im saying lol. i get it, and can appreciate that, just not sure it would ever happen.

Ok, let's see, arming teachers won't work, cops in every school, too expensive, metal detectors, nada, school vouchers, never happen, disarming America, never. Well that about covers it folks, anyone have any ideas that are rooted in reality and not magical thinking?

    teacher unions can remain.

    there is no favoritism.

good schools would prosper...bad schools would not.

good teachers/admins would gravitate to the prosperous schools (and probably make more money)...bad teachers would get the darwin disease.

parents and kids would have more choice - freedom.

kids would get a better education.

the only possibable loser would be politicians and the power they hold over school boards...eff them. most would see that as a win. (not to get into the political weeds)

Wait till one of those teachers puts a round in a kid. Or has an accidental discharge. Or does not adequately secure the weapon and it's stolen.

You want to arm teachers then you need to pick teachers who will learn the proper techniques and who will devote time to maintain proficiency and who will not hesitate when called upon. But in general, I think it's a really bad idea to arm a teacher whose primary responsibility is education.

There has to be a better way.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I agree with you here. I treat everyone I encounter at work as a "customer". I like to meet people, be friendly so they know they are protected and know for a fact I WILL try my damnedest to save their life. Private security is a real and dangerous job. The liabilty for a company to give you a firearm is huge. And you know something, I have NEVER arrested anyone. I like to place cuffs on people for "their safety and mine" and then, if they have to be arrested (custodial), I wait for Leo to show up, place their cuffs over mine, and read they read them their rights. I am there for anti-terrorism. Not petty crimes. I will let the Leo's deal with that. My entire job is to protect life, then property. But always life first. A huge differeance between security and leo's, is that if i witness a crime ( that is not a felony) i DO NOT have to detain someone. I just notify leo. But for the case of Life at risk, I HAVE TO act. My training is real. The thing with private security is, you pay for what you get. If you pay someone 14 dollars an hour, they are not going to risk their lives. I make 25 an hour doing my job. The provide level 3 armor. My intructors at the firearm academy are great shooters. I shot the same course that Fletc has. (one of my instructors was a prior Fletc instructor)

Leo cannot be everywhere. In fact, there are more armed security officers than Leo. We are on the same side, but with different rules.

it would be stupid to not allow teachers to CCW, if they're confident enough to want to carry then they most likely have done the training they should, and stay up to date on their training.

Exactly , I don't see how that wouldn't promote a two tiered system

We already have a two tiered education system.

Many school districts find kids from outside the district (legal residence) and make efforts to get rid of them either by expulsion or taking the parents to court-heck, it's hard to fault a parent who lives in a shitty neighborhood wanting to get their kid into a better school.

i think in theory it is a good idea. i know that in my area, all schools are required to have an officer on campus at all times but he is not allowed to be armed. in theory, the armed officer would be able to defend against an armed assailant 100% of the time, but thats just not true. this is not a perfect fix, but then again there is no perfect fix to the "people problem", not the gun problem, that we seem to have.

Some of our schools already have a police officer on site.....

I had written a letter to our Governor and suggested we have 'volunteer' community citizens to patrol the OUTSIDE of the school property. No guns needed - just an extra set of eyes to take notice to suspicious activity. They could implement something like this fairly easily, quickly, and cheaply.

I'm in total agreement of 'someone' (police, security, or whoever) being ARMED within the school as long as they are FULLY trained almost like being a full police officer.

Same here....most of the High Schools have what they call a School Resource Officer. Usually a county deputy & he is armed. I don't think any of the Elementary of Middle schools have any.

Seems to be a much simpler solution, police stations and substations need to be someplace, why not in the school building itself, with reasonable operating separation of course.

So lets see if i got this right, cus im not sure. Lets protect the kids by banning all guns, we dont need them because the police will protect us. Lets protect our kids, but lets not put police or armed security where they can respond to threats of their safety faster because one man wasn't an action hero at ONE event?

Its sad because it ALMOST makes me wish An emergency like event would happen to everyone with this point of view just so they would know just how far away help is when they really need it. (please note I said "almost" and i would never wish harm to come to anyone innocent, but i think that is the only way some people will learn)
