Tires touching UCAs

I researched tires for 3 months and read all the advice on here to get Bilstein 5100s. I got those and bought a set of 285/70/17 ST Maxx tires. I had the tires installed a few days ago and the they were touching the UCAs... This is with the wheels facing straight. They ended up having to remove them and put my bald ass tires back on

I have a 2011 Sport and these are going on stock rims. The guys at Discount Tire said if I have spacers on the truck they cant touch it. What else am I supposed to do?

Looks like you did research on the lift but not on wheels/tires.

Spidertrax spacers or wheels with less backspacing will do. Can't use impact guns on the lugnuts if you use spacers, which is why Discount Tire won't touch them.

 

I can't afford aftermarket wheels. I was actually just going to paint these. Why are wheel spacers "bad"??

Is Spidertrax the brand to go with? Sorry guys this is my first truck. If you need mod advice for a Cobra, I can help

Gotcha. Any idea of what size spacer i'll need? I don't know why I thought all I needed was to do the lift and the 285s would fit with some trimming

Spacers aren't bad. They aren't preferred either from what I've read. Run em til you save for some wheels if you want. That is your only fix though. Move the wheels out.

 

Spacers aren't that bad unless you wheel pretty often, spacers create another point that could fail. I've been running them for almost a year and have had no issues. Just make sure you don't use a impact on them and check them regularly.. I run spidertrax

 

Only offroading I'll do is dirt roads in east TX. The guys at DT were basically saying spacers were dangerous due to shortening the length of the studs.. So if I get my tires from them and I already have the spacers they won't install them. I'm contemplating just staying with 265/70s, but I really don't want to

 

Get a buddy to take u and ur wheels and new tires and have them swap the tires then go back home and install ur wheels urself.

 

The spacers bolt to the hubs with a lug nut and they have their own studs to bolt the wheel to. They are not any shorter what so ever. Plenty of people run them. Look at the picture closer:

I run spidertrax wheel spacers, we have really shitty road here plus I take the truck on rough roads into the camp and etc and they work great just check them once in a while and torque then to correct specs

 

DT is referring to the "shim" type of wheel spacers which use the existing studs to attach the wheel. These do shorten stud engagement:

Spidertrax-type spacers have a separate set of full-length studs for attaching the wheel:



Spidertrax spacers are safe if installed correctly. However, Spidertrax's instructions specifically prohibit the use of impact guns. Unless you trust the mechanic to use only hand tools, you will have to do all the install/removals yourself.

Like mavrick0509 mentioned, one way is to leave the truck at home on jackstands, and take the wheels and 285 tires in a buddy's car to DT to get the tires installed. Then you can put the wheels on the truck yourself.

 

I was also thinking about doing a 3 inch lift from toytec the ones with toytech coil and 5100s and add a leaf in rear for 2 lift.. I have a 2013 sport DC and wanting to keep stock wheels can I run 275 with this set up with this setup or have to stay with 265.. Factory wheel is 17

 

It is hard to say this guy ran 285 and touched so you might be fine you might not be. Try searching and see what comes up
