Pro Comp 7036 Wheel question

I am new here and have found plenty of great information yet despite countless searches I have not yet been able to find the answer I seek.

I have a 2007 Tacoma Quadcab V6 SR5 package with base suspension. I'd like to install Pro Comp 7036 wheels 17X9 with a 4.75 backspace and -6mm offset. What is the max tire size that will fit without suspension mods or cutting? I was thinking of 265/70/17 BFG Rugged Terrains. Just a little taller than stock height tires.

Will this work? Thanks in advance.

Those will work. Minor rubbing on the fender well plastic, if any

Also if I add Bilstein 5100's in front; will it be necessary to lift the rear? I'd like a nice level stance.

 

Depends on what you set the fronts to.

 

Installed this morning. Slight rubbing on inside driver side mudflap. No problem. It will shave down after a couple days.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm looking at the 7036 rims mentioned and just wondering if there was any clearance issues with the front caliper?? I've heard that some aftermarket rims will contact the front face of the caliper. I want to order these for my truck but just want to clarify any issues. Thanks.

 

Just buy some wheel spacers, they come in .75 inch, 1 inch, 1.5 inch and maybe 2 inches?? Should cost around $100 for a pair

 

There are no clearance issues related to the brakes.

 

Scotty225 your truck/wheels look great! I just got the same wheels and am very happy with them. They stick out of fenders just the right amount. No rubbing after removing mudflaps and front splash guards.

 

Mike, I'm looking to do the same wheels. Pro Comp 7036. So the 265/70/17 BFG's worked OK? I have stock suspension and don't really want to do a lift. I have been considering a level kit of some sort. Maybe the Bilstein 5100's but I'm not sure on that. Wheels and tires will be first.
Just want to make sure that tire size will work with the 17x9 7036. Thanks, RQ

 

That size will work on that rim. My 265x70x17 Nitto Trail Grapplers are on my 7036's (Helldorados) now and I love em. It does make the tire about 1/2" shorter because it has to widen out, but it looks like a beefier tire then when on the stock 7.5" rims. Plus if you ever do decide to lift and want a bigger tire in future these rims will hold them.

 

Thanks Rick. This process is confusing. I may do the bilstein 5100's up front in the future. I want the look of the 7036 and stay close to stock tire size. Glad to know that size will work. I'm getting different answers from shops in Pittsburgh.

Different tires in the same size do not necessarily measure the same height and widths. As a matter of fact there are tires of the same brand, model and size that have different measurements. Go to the tire rack and compare tire specs and you'll see what I mean.

That being said I can tell you that the wheels and tires I installed work with the stock suspension. There IS occasional rubbing of the front tires on the mud flaps. It happens a couple of times per week.

The tires do stick out slightly past the stock fender flares; about a 1/2 inch.

I too was going to do the Bilsteins but chose not to after installing my wheel & tire package. They're not necessary for my taste. The truck has a nice stance with the wheel wells filled.

Thanks Mike! That's good info. It's funny, the guys at Pro Comp said the 7036's will not work unless I have a lift. Last question (I think), did you use your stock tire pressure sensors or did you get an after market set? If you bought after market, which ones?

 

I didn't use any sensors. I left them in the OEM setup with the intention of selling them. I just ignore the TPS warning light.
