As mentioned before, how do you know this? I have personally seen employees fired for theft and the customer notified and compensated. You can't justify a blanket statement like that.

The "gophers" are what a couple of us have been calling in this thread a Porter. That is what a Porter does, transports the vehicles around the dealership as needed.

 

You're right, that's a blanket statement that doesn't always apply.. I can see that they would fire someone , notify the customer, and then bribe them with free oil changes to keep them from bad-mouthing on social media outlets and other places. I can also see them handling it internally and not notifying the customer. Either way, someone loses out.

I don't see how someone would always lose out though. If the theft is caught, and the property returned to the customer, and the employee terminated, I see nobody losing out. The customer gets his property back, and a free oil change or two (Personally I would be offering the free LOF as a courtesy and an apology, not an attempt to bribe them, but that's me and how I run my shop), and the shop owner could retain a customer rather than lose them. Nobody loses. (Well the thief does. He loses his job, but that is to be expected in the first place for being dumb enough to steal from a customer)

 

No business wants a thief working for them...but in some cases the customer is wrong...

I have heard more times about how the mechanic "stole a tank of gas" from their vehicle. When I ask what work was done, it usually involves a process, such as changing a fuel pump, that requires fuel tank removal.

The service manager is only human...

 

When i go to stealership i take a laundry basket and unload everyting but the manual. Take desponsibility for your mistake and move on.

Oh yeah. Heard of those plenty of times. Especially when the customer will have a complaint like "vehicle does not shift properly into high gear" or other transmission complaints, and when we end up driving the vehicle for some 40 or 50 miles to duplicate it, then after the repair another 10 or 15 miles to verify fix, and the customer complains that their fuel tank is not as full as when they brought it in....Shesh!

That being said, when we removed fuel tanks to replace fuel pumps, we had a holding tank with a hand pump that we would use to pump out the fuel, then refill that fuel back in the truck. Usually no more than 1/2 gallon loss.

 

You have made it clear that your shop is a step above the rest. Its nice to see that theres still someone out there that gives a crap. However, you are an exception to the norm. Every dealer I have ever dealt with would hate negative publicity and will do what it takes to avoid it. Whether its theft or tech doing crappy work, most often its some sort of free service. In this part of Alabama that would be considered a bribe. Here's some oil, please tell your friends nice things about us. In regards to the theft, maybe the guy loses his job. Maybe he doesnt. Maybe the OP found his magazine in his garage.. who knows?

Thanks for running a shop that has some integrity and customer service. I stand by my statement that you are the exception, not the norm.

 

Nice to have a holding tank that can be dedicated to a vehicle...I almost NEVER put drain gas back into a vehicle to avoid claims of "contamination" and now they want new injectors, fuel pump, filters, tuneup and whatever else they want to claim. I just tell them we are going to pull the tank and bring the vehicle in as empty as possible or else we will have to charge them to remove the fuel.

On the aircraft side, once we drain tanks for major maintenance, the old jet fuel NEVER flies again.

How is leaving a loaded magazine in a personal vehicle grounds to pull a firearms license? Anyone can buy ammo, clips, reload powder, brass and the like OTC and without a signature or log entry in most states...

 

Dude, DON'T leave stuff in your car at dealerships or car washes or the beach parking lot or in front of your house overnight or the local bar or wherever, OK ? Car wash jocks and lot porters at dealerships, minimum wage grunts, OK ? Use common sense, OK ? Free advice.....move on.

OP, can you carry daily on you? Just wondering why you would have a magazine in your truck other wise.

 

I think it's pretty easy to get a carry permit in AZ. From what I understand all you have to do is apply?

AZ has always been permitless open-carry legal.

Last year, Brewer signed into law "Constitutional Carry"... no permit is needed for concealed or open carry.
Alaska and Vermont likewise have no-permit CCW.
Arizona and Alaska still issue permits, primarily for reasons of reciprocity with other states, but also because "Constitutional Carry" does not permit carry within 1000ft of a school. Federal law requires that to carry within 1000ft of a school, a permit issued from that state is required.
Legally, as a California resident, if I get an AZ non-resident permit, I can legally carry within 1000ft of a school in AZ, but not in Texas, even though Texas recognizes the AZ non-resident permit.

But any of us who are not prohibited from owning a firearm may legally carry concealed in AK, VT, or AZ.

 

I do carry daily, and in Az we have a modified castle doctrine. My vehicle is considered an extension of my home, I have no duty to retreat. I keep extra mags in there in case the 12+1 in my .40 does not stop the threat, I can reload and continue to attempt to stop the threat.

 

WY is now a right to carry state as well, but I'm not sure if that only applies to residents or not.
