I have an 2009 TRD DC and have the same issue!!!! It happens when I slow down to make a turn.....My kid has baseball practice down a really windy road and it absolutely drives me nuts!!!!

I took it in when my truck had about 1500 miles on it and they checked it out. They asked me to duplicate it and OF COURSE I COULD NOT!!!!! Talk about aggravating!!! The checked it out and said all was OK. I'm almost at 9000 miles and it still does it.

Pisses me off when I get in my wifes Dodge Magnum with the Hemi and see how it reacts compared to my Tacoma.....

Just hold it in the next lower gear on the winding road.

mine was really bad when I first got it. now, after 12,000 miles it seems to have gone away, or I dont really notice it. might be a break-in procedure that toyota puts in the computer?

I talked with the service manager where I bought my Tacoma today. He tried to explain this to me, but it was fairly technical, but here is. He refered to it as "drive by wire" technology, compared the gas pedal to the mouse on a computer. Everything is done electronically. The computer stores how you drive and the more consistant you are the faster the computer learns how you drive. You can actually reset the computer and start the learning process over. The computers are set for maximum fuel efficiency and sometimes shift down 2 or three gears at a time, from overdrive gear to second for example. I am going to try and have him send me an email explaining this that I can forward to anyone interested.

I can agree with this. Let me know when you get an email. I'm interested to see what he says.

"Drive by wire" applies to the throttle body. The tranny is still hard attached to the engine, and should behave like any other EC tranny. I still belive the fluid level is not where it should be on the vehicles in which owners are haveing this issue. Dealers are idiots, and they dont want to do something on their dime.

I am with you Chris, damn you know if they had only put a dipstick on the transmission this whole thing could be solved so much easier.

Well, Then people could actually check for them selves instead of being told its "Normal" by the monkey service tech at Toyota. :)

Mine started to do that the first day I took it home I though it was normal at first. As I had been driving before a Ford Ranger for 15 years so I was not sure how the new trucks run with all the computers on board. I will have to bring it in as it drives me nuts when I turn or go down a hill it lags or its not sure which gear to go in.

it does the same on my 09 TRD DCSB, it's like transmission is slipping. any feedback from the manufacturer?

That's exactly my Taco does. Is this a problem to us taco owners?

Mine shifts Perfectly. Nice firm shifts around 2000 to 2200 rpm.

Nothing special at the moment just a K&N air filter.
I've got a 05 4cyl with almost 50k and it does the same thing what I have foud out by some automatic trans gurus is that the converter is not sized correctly and the lock up solinoid has a bad design. According to one guy he said he could fix it tighten up the converter and alter the valve body, according to him this should fix this problem. I plan to do the valve body alteration as soon as my warrenty expires.:D

Okay, I'm no genius here, but I don't see this as a big deal. Test this theory out, because its the only time I've ever seen it.

DOES IT HAPPEN WHEN YOU'RE COASTING DOWN A HILL? :) Ok well not always, but thats when its supposed to do it.

As far as I can tell, its the Downhill Assist kicking in. Mine used to do it at random times. It drops a gear to prevent the truck from running away down a hill and forcing you to use your brakes to maintain speed. The automatics version of 'engine braking'. Obviously (to me at least) its kicking in right as you slow for your turn, thus bringing up the RPMs. I don't even notice it anymore.

My truck does not have downhill assist. Just a good old simplicity.
