while I was at work awhile back, I was bitch`n about that Exon/Mobil executive who received a $389 million severance pay, and my partner says ( I think just to get me more spun up ),"well he was probably worth it". I said yea he had a novel idea, something like this...you know, people must have gas so we can really jack the price and they`ll have to pay! 389 million...say that to yourself a few times and just think about it. Are you gonna make that kind of cash in a lifetime?

Gas is 3.45 here now, although I can afford it I'll still do more bike riding once the weather warms up. It does amaze me that there isn't more outrage in our country over this though.

I doubt it. As the price of gas increases, other alternative fuels and energy sources become more economically viable creating less demand for gasoline.

The answer is really quite simple; go diesel. There is about 30 percent more energy in a unit of diesel than gasoline and the real world performance of diesel translates into much better economy, torque curve suited to low rpm application, and improved engine longevity. Diesel also produces far less CO2 than gassers and biodiesel does not take a mileage hit as does ethanol. My VW TDI will blow the doors off my tacoma while providing better than twice the fuel mileage. All we need to do is depose the EPA and get in accord with the rest of the world using diesel.

Don't hold your breath (gas prices). There isn't much they can do about it. As much as they blather on about the President's ties to the oil companies, he really has nothing to do with it. Those futures quotes you see on the news for barrels of oil are global prices, not just US prices (everyone's paying it). Any legislative efforts to cap prices will result in shortages (why should I send oil to you at a capped price when I can sell it to the rest of the world for it's normal price), and heavy tax burdens on the oil companies will be passed on to the consumer. The only way to decrease prices is to increase supply (drill) or reduce demand (conserve or create alternatives). Democrats won't drill (unless they're from a state that gains revenue from it) and we won't voluntarily reduce demand. Many alternative fuels have to see high gasoline prices before they become economically viable. Biofuels take too much land to offset the US's demand; if you could plant enough palm trees to get palm oil (the most efficient per acre) it would take the entire land mass of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado (plus you have to water it all).

India and China are exerting huge demand as their economies explode; China's GDP grows at about 10% per year and shows no signs of slowing. Both countries are expanding their highway systems and encouraging more cars and more demand.

I think we are all screwed . It is not going to get any better and let me tell you a secret. You will see $200 per barrel in the near future. There is no purpose in living in the past. Stop bitching and make changes now in preparation for the future.
