2009-2010 4WD Access Cab 4cyl vs. V6 milage

What kind of real world milage are folks getting with either the 4cyl or V6 4WD Access Cab with manual transmition? I was suprised on the toyota website that the manual V6 was 14/18 vs 16/20 with the automatic. i thought the manual would be better.

 

I get 22 - 23 MPG with 70% highway miles in my 4 cyl. 5 Spd.

 

Mine (2.7l, 4wd, manual) consistently gets better than 26, sometimes up to 29. That is mostly mountain and highway driving, with a bit of town and city driving. Of course, I drive conservatively. The Toyota ratings are not consistent with what I have seen others report on this site.

 

Even I don't get that kind of mileage when I drive like granny, what's your secret?

2010 4wd Access Cab 2.7l 5-speed now has 38k miles at average of 21.5 mpg for all miles. I range between 20-27mpg per tank based on driving, weather, season (oxy fuel in PA winters), and time spent in 4wd.

 

2009 4wd Access Cab 2.7l 5-speed, I have a shell and stock tires and average 23 with some off road to 26 all highway at 55mph. Coasting in gear helps alot. Also slowing down going up hills.

 

Not sure. I have always been able to beat the epa ratings on any vehicle I have owned. Always watch ahead to slow before stops. Keep the speedometer below 65, use the autopilot often. No jack rabbit starts or rapid acceleration.

The truck is stock, with a shell on the back and standard size tires, load range E at about 35 psi. Not a lot of excess weight, tho I carry 50 - 75 pounds or so of tools, etc. On trips where I had 500 pounds or so in the rear the truck still made better than 25 mpg.

I noticed it was an old thread, too, but thought I would contribute since someone else revived it.
