long stoy short after the whooping 2 inches of snow that southern PA just received my wife thought she "needed" 4x4 to drive.

first she drove about 20 miles with the selector switch in "4h" but for some reason it didnt engage so the light just flashed on the dash and beeped. at some point she also tried to go into "4 low" but thankfully she didnt do it right and 4 low didnt engage.

eventually she made it to her destination and returned home on the highway, about a 40 mile trip at about 60-65 miles per hour. this time 4x4 was engaged, said she felt binding when turning and the dash light stayed lit and the beeping stopped.

i drove a few miles in 2 wheel and it drove fine...im nervous to try 4x4 now tho...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

im hiding my taco keys from now on

You are probably ok. She was on wet roads at least. Try 4x4 and find out.

The beeping was letting you know that you were traveling to fast for it to shift safely. And the binding is normal in 4hi/lo on dryer surfaces, especially at lower speeds. You should be fine

Unless the roads were totally snow free then you are fine. That is what 4wd is for.

    Brand new. Coming soon.
There's a couple things you need to check after letting your wife drive your truck.

    1. Open the driver's side door, put your head in the cabin and take a long deep breath through your nose...If you smell something sickly-sweet you need to look for a small rodent-like nest of odiferous wood shavings...they may possibly be in the center console, glove box, or change tray. It's called potpourri...remove it with a shop-vac, and then wipe the area down with a shop towel soaked in armor-all.

    2. Do a thorough search for plant life. Women like to poke flowers into any vase-like appendage they happen to see. It's a built-in hard-wired phenomenon. Search your cup holders intensely. If any flowers are found, yank them out and throw them on the ground...don't worry, you are not littering...they will break down.

    3. Re-adjust the driver's seat. It will be too high, too far forward, and too upright for your comfort.

    4. Check your radio pre-sets. Some may have been changed to easy listening, pop, self-help, or non-stop John Tesh Music stations.

    5. Do a walk around the exterior looking for dents, scratches, dings, new stickers, tracking devices, antenna toppers, glitter, vanity plates, missing body panels, or Hello Kitty paraphernalia.

    Good luck!

sounds like you need to have a chat with your wife about the proper use of 4x4..... The truck is fine, I did that once in my old 98 GMC Jimmy when I had to go to class and it wouldn't shift out of 4x4.

its fine, it worked like it should man! you will get some binding when turning in 4wd, thats normal. no real explanation for why it didnt engage on the way there, but it did what its supposed to do... is your truck auto or manual?

Hahahah, what makes it that women cant learn how to drive manual?

Oh well, thought he meant manual as in a booklet thats tacoma specific. I guess it should be a no brainer that atleast one of the owners should know alittle about the truck they drive.

No doubt you were just making a joke but for about 7 years my wife drove a Corvette ZR-1 6 speed as her daily driver. In fact we both did. It wasn't like she's some kind of brute either; she's all of 5'5" and 100 lbs. Now she drive a 5K pound SUV but she still does a nice job a manual transmission.
