There is something wrong. I have street tires and a 1.5 inch lift. I try my best to get the best mileage and it is pissing me off.

Ouch, do you do a lot of short trips? Sometimes if you have a lot of trips that are only a mile or two you end up getting really bad mileage

 

I dont do many short trips. If I do they are like once a day though. I am determined that it is my cats. I am going to make a video of it with a super cold start so you guys can hear the crazy rattling that happens.

Very interesting info indeed. It is a 400 but its not the original motor that came with it. Came out of a 67-68 Firebird. It's a fun motor, but runs retarded hot.

Weren't you having O2 sensor issues? Did you fix those? 7mpg's is not right at all.

 

Yea, you're o2 sensors must be shot man. Probably throwing your mixture off the charts and it's running extremely rich. That said, mine's not even reading right and I still get about 14...

 

Yeah but when I scanned the code it said Cat inefficiency. Wouldn't it tell me the o2 sensors are bad? It could be both? All I know is that I dont believe O2 sensors make rattling noises. It sounds like you put a marble in a can of coke and shake it around.

 

I've got MTs and a ton of extra weight and I still get around 17-18. Your issue is definitely something with the ECU/sensors.

On another note, after installed my HC rear bumper the bedsides didn't really have support and got really floppy. Fixed that today with a few bolts and a piece of flat stock.

Anyone else have that same problem?

Guessing you were getting either p0420 or 430 codes. Cat inefficient codes are pretty cut and dry. You could have another issue as well but cats shouldnt rattle and with those codes I would say they are toast.

Yeah it was the 0420. Trust me they sound pretty toast. I told my dad I was going to hack them off or not drive it anymore.

 

yes that would set them as well but he still has the stock manifolds so............he's fucked. Are your stock manifolds any good? May be looking for a set.
