I did this mod yesterday the way the OP suggested. Works fine. However my complaint which I assume caribe was trying to fix was the map lights now come on regardless of whether the dome light is set to come on with the doors. So if I have my dome light set to "OFF", the map lights still come on when the doors open even though the dome does not. The way caribe was suggesting I assume fixes that by tapping the wire after it has gone through that switch. The way he explained it made no sense though.

Ok guys the way that I wired it up the map lights stayed on no matter what. With yall responses I went out and figured it out for yall and its what Caribe was saying.

If you wired it up like I did it then it would look like this.

They way that Caribe is saying is like this. And I've changed mine also like this.

What you do is there is a screw sized hole that you can slip the wire from the map lights into. Then to secure it add a screw and nut to hold it in place.

Map lights will work in conjunction with the dome light when it is turned on and off manually. What is happening is the map lights are on the other side of the switch that controls the dome lights rather than being on the non switch side.

I've edited the main post to reflect these changes. Thanks guys for pointing this out.

Awesome! So what does the wire make contact with inside that hole?

It's hard to tell from the picture but the whole area of the hole is metal, which is the negative side contact.

Oh okay that makes sense. So you just used a random screw to keep it in place?

Would that also make the map lights come on if the dome was set to "ON" instead of "DOOR"?

I was able to make it stay without a screw for now since I didn't have any handy that would fit but yea, as long as there's contact between the two.

Yes, when the switch is set to door, the dome and map lights come on... when the switch is off, both lights are off... when the switch is set to on, both lights come on.

Check out the video on the original post at the bottom.

Any thoughts on getting the metal thing that goes in pigtail on map light side?

You might be able to use a crimp wire connector. I'm not sure if the metal tong will be long enought though. If you have some laying around try it out.

I'm a little thick at understanding myself sometimes. That is a better way to wire it up, IMO.

Did this today, easy to do. I just put the wire through the hole in the dome light and wedged it between the bulb and the bulb holder.

In the fuse box or with the clips hanging down?
The one with the red clips are extra wires that go to something else.

Did the newer version of the mod earlier.... worked great!

I'll see how long it holds up since the screw and wire are both just crammed into the hole.

so I'd done this mod on my 08 almost a year ago, following the original thread from TN. the problem that I encountered on that one was that it seems the LED bulbs where still drawing so little power that I notice it whenever I closed the door. made a few a thread regarding the problem but no answer. just re-did mines today, removed the diode, bent that one part and used a female spade as a connector. I hope by doing this it has remedid/solved the problem. I'll check it out tonight to get a better look at it if it still doing the same thing.

this was with the original set up. drawing little power.

If you redid to this way the LEDs would be clearly visible during the day also. (See video) Your pic shows almost no light... Must be something wrong

umm it works. all I'm saying is that with the old set up that I had, the problem that I encountered with was when I closed the doors, the LED's still drew power(as you can see on the pic).
