getting ready to do change oils.

    I am changing my front diff,transfer case and tranny oil in my 98 Tacoma 4x4.

    I was wondering if i got everything I need and if there is any pointers that will help along the way.

    I got 2 bottles of redline mt90 for tranny. Tranny requires 2.2L so I will be short about 300 ml. I was going to add a little lucas stablizer to meet requirements. Is that ok?

    For the transfer case I got one bottle of pennzoil 75w-90 full synthetic GL4

    and for the front diff i got 1 bottle of Quaker state 75w-90 GL-5 full synthetic oil. It requires 1.15l of oil so I will be short about 150 ml of oil. I was going to top p the rest with some lucas stableizer.


    I am doing this tonight. I already did my rear. I would also like to grease my drive shaft zerks. Any tips? Just grease until it comes out?

    Just got back from changing transfer case oil. I am leaking from the front of transfer case were the drive shaft goes in. Easy fix? I also noticed the transfer case i leaking at top? common problems?

    I don't have any experience with the leaks you describe (and the advice is a little late if you're done), but using the right crush washers makes the job easier.

    Crush washers? It's a transfer case not a differential rebuild, there are no crush washers. Just the seal and the nut.. Pretty straight forward, or you could try adding some kind of Lucas sealant and pray the seal rubber swells up

    The crush washers are used when changing the oil in the transmission, transfer case, and differentials, which is what the OP asked about in his first post. (It's also spelled-out at the link I provided.)
