A couple of questions on this... First, let me say that I have a front bumper, lift, CMC, Icon tubular ucas, 4.56 gears, etc... So, I am not that concerned with it fitting. I have had 305's and had no issues. With that being said, the 305's wheels had 5 backspacing and 0 offset. Do you think a 315/70r17 would rub the uca with 4.5 backspacing and -12 offset?

Second question... I have read why many people like a 285 or 315 over the other. Most of the time it comes down to not being able to fit the bigger one, or the narrow one is better in the snow, wider is better in the mud, the list goes on and on. So, if fitting the tire under your truck wasn't an issue, which would you pick and why? Why is one better than the other?

I have 285's and that is because that is the biggest tire that would fit. I wouldn't go any bigger if I could tho looking back on it. I personally don't have any need for larger tires than that and kills the gas mileage and makes the truck work harder.

The short answer is that once the suspension is fully compressed, the wheelwell isn't any bigger than it was from the factory - unless you made it bigger by cutting. Now, with a stiff aftermarket lifted suspension, this is unlikely to happen on the street; as opposed to the stock suspension which is pretty easy to hit the bump stops on the street. But full stuff can and does happen off-road.

A 33x11" tire needs about 1" extra clearance all the way around.

a 35x12" tire needs about 2" extra clearance all the way around.

So everyone picks their combination of

    * cutting (including cab-mount-chop, pinch weld, etc...)

    * rubbing (often unnoticed, least of your worries when you've driven into a really hard hit)

    * not driving to stuff the wheels (milder driving style or milder terrain)

Pick your poison man. It sounds like you want the 315s and I'm not going to try and talk you out of them.

Meh stuffing 35's isn't all that hard, these are quite a bit bigger than a 315/70r17 too

i used to have a 6" lift and 33's, now i have a 3" lift n 35's and tackle stuff i never would have imagined doing with the 6" and 33's. the 35's have treated me very well off road!

lol why one or the other...Really...well i'm here anyways....

one is heavier = less power, lower gas mileage.
one has 1" more clearance = better ground clearance.
One is wider = not enough to matter.
One is more expensive = less TacoBell money
One is smaller = less possibility of rubbing/more clearence.

It should be completely obvious why one would want one of the other, the answer if nearly in the question. Best of luck to you ;)

    BTW i run 285s

yeah, I know all of the obvious ones, I just thought I would let people chime in and give their opinion and help me spend my money! lol... I have had 305's, then moved to 285's, thinking about going back up to 315's since I regeared.

hum... Do you have any rubbing or issues? What kinda of issues do you see me having? Like I said I have run the 305's and I had no rubbing anywhere, but I did have a very deep cab mount chop and pinch weld job done and some trimming on the fender flares. The new tires according to the tire calculator would be .75" taller and .3" wider. I just don't see how it would be too much different.

Thanks for your input! I need to make sure I am not missing anything.

Are those glass fenders? I certainly can't see the stock front fender flares in that pic and there aren't any fender holes.

No those are glass, even before glass i found most of the rubbing to be the pinch weld area and of course body mount

    And ohhh sooo sexy! :D

I'm getting 35's next! You can play with getting enough caster to push the wheel forward as to not rub the firewall (pinch weld area) but the pinch weld will need to be flat and cab mounts chopped to give an extra inch or so in that area! You will deff need glass fenders or trim a few inchs off the stockers since the up travel will also be an issue!
