Can you use a 245 spare with 285's ?

I have a 4x4 and upgraded to 285s. My spare is still a 245. I have already made sure my new lugs also work with my spare.

If I ever need to use my spare to get to a tire shop are there any concerns running a 245 and the rest of the tires are a 285?

Can you run in 4x4 like this with out damage?

Can you use your locker like this?

Op definitely consider getting a full size spare

 

When I upgraded to 265's BG AT's I got a somewhat used BG Rugged Trail of the same size. I didn't see the need to get a new one since I wouldn't use it but a few times. I'm going on almost 2 years now and haven't used it once. I've put air in it twice, but that's it. Don't get a new one! Discount Tire is where I got it from, and it was a great price.

 

Thanks for the quick info!! The full 285 doesn't seem to fit under the truck with out cutting out the tabs and everything. Even then I'm not so sure. If I am going off road I will throw a full size in the bed for the day. I wanted to make sure I knew what I could do and what not to do for around town.

If I can't fit a 285 under the truck and 245 wont cause damage (no 4x4 no locker) then I'll just leave the 245 under for everyday driving.

Any know where to get a 3/4in tire iron that also has the hole to allow it to be used like a handle to let down the spare?

 

You could get a skinny tire of equal diameter for a spare if that would help fitment.

 

My issue is the O.D. for fitment.

 

Aren't supposed to use it on the rear, either? Thought I read that here. So if you had a flat in the rear you'd need to swap a front tire back and put the spare up there.

 

I wouldnt go very far with it on the rear, you can heat up the diff really quick doing that. Good call

 

You can of course. But it will damage things. If its on the rear, say goodbye to your diff if you are travelling a long distance on it. Put it on the front. If you're in 2wd it'll be ok.
