This thread is dead. The reason its gone 21 pages is because as new posters show up ( or a few old ones) they have not read the previous 20 pages of posts and simply hack away at their keyboard retyping the same things that have already been covered 48 times. Its the thread version of Ground Hog Day.

We still have people who are arguing about having armed Guards at Schools when the fact is they have been there for years and more and more are arriving as we speak.

In my opinion, the "disease" is those would would grant our precious children less security than even money in a bank. Unlike school children on a playground or in a classrom, both now with virtually no security at all, banks don't leave valuables sitting around unsecured and exposed for all to do with as they please. They take steps to secure those valuables. Perhaps you can explain why it is so wrong to take at least somewhat similar steps to secure our valuable children.

Personally, I don't believe teachers, who work very closely around children all day, should be allowed to carry a firearm. The security of those children should be left to law enforcement personnel - officers (multiple in each school) specially trained for this particular task.

Laws are different in different states, but in general, you may only draw if you have a reasonable fear for your life or the life of another.

And MOST cases where CCW holders draw, the incident is resolved without firing, so no... the teacher is not going to "pull a gun and start shooting"

I think his statement was offered as a solution.

I was taught not to pull the weapon unless I intend to use it. But I see your point, only thats a very hard call to make. Big grey area.

and still 12 died at Columbine High School. I call it a fail. It Might have reduced the number of murders. I don't know exactly what stopped the carnage. The most armed security will do is react, how can it prevent?

Were there reports of how the security were ineffective other then 12 people were killed? That really tells us nothing so some more detail would be helpful.

I don't have details of how ineffective it was other than the 12 deaths. Again, maybe more were prevented, i don't know. It's a reactive measure at best I think.

How will we pay for it?? How about keeping some of the billions we send to every foreign nation, by the way many of which hate our friggen guts openly. We need to know just how much our politicians, tax payers, citizens care for the safety of our children. I'm betting the Prez's kids are well protected by gun toting guards. At the end of the day, what makes them any more special than your children are to you????? I'm for armed guards in the schools, I'm guessing the cowards will look for a new soft target.

I feel bad for the guy. No matter what he did 12 kids died. he has to think on some level that he could have done more. Thats why that job is a real bitch. Maybe he saved kids lives, I hope so. I don't know if he fired a shot at all. I can't find any info anywhere.

So then you don't know if it was ineffective, you're just assuming it was? In other words it's a bad example to use.

no it was a little sarcasm.............I think it failed at keeping kids from getting killed. Do you think it worked well? 12 kids were killed. I ddon't know if he saved any or not.

NOTHING will ever stop this from happening. Crazy/bad people cannot be defended against 100%

I could speculate and think it was not a pretty story so the press put it on the shelf. If he was a hero they would have pushed the story hard.

Oh absolutely... but in the microseconds between pulling and firing, things can change.

It is absolutely true that you do not pull a weapon unless you are willing to take another human life.
To make that decision AFTER you draw will result in your death.

It is also absolutely true that you do not fire "a warning shot", you do not yell out "I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it", and you do not have your shotgun loaded progressively with rock salt, birdshot, buckshot, and slugs. That too is stupid.... just like believing that the sound of racking a shotgun will "scare away" an intruder.
No... it tells the intruder that you were not prepared, are not mentally prepared to shoot him, and he had damned well better shoot you first.

But you don't draw and immediately begin firing.
You still need to continually assess the situation and be aware of your surroundings and what is behind the bad guy. If someone has moved behind your target, you must not shoot until it is clear.
But generally, the act of the person drawing is enough to cause the attacker/intruder to stand down.

I was in such a situation 10 years ago about 60 miles offshore.
Boatload of guys "fishing" and acting like they were drunk.
They were getting uncomfortably close to our boat. We yelled and sounded the horn... they yelled back that they would pass by with "PLENTY of room".

They sobered up VERY quickly when they saw Mr Colt and Mr Ruger appear (my buddy and I both drew at the same time).

Would I have shot? You bet your ass. We were on anchor, cabin boat, nobody on the bow, so no way to cut the anchor line and scoot. Buddy's wife, 10y/o son, and 8 y/o daughter were with us.

    simple...

school vouchers...and let the market decide.

If school "A" wants guards & guns...and there are enough parents who want to send their kids to a school with guards & guns...so be it.

If school "B' wants no security...or heck...if they want to teach kids only how to count backwards...and there enough parents who want to send their kids to such a school...so be it.

If school "C" wants total security...discipline...uniformed students...faith based studies...or even wants every teacher to have a CCW to qualify...and again, there are enough parents..........

VOUCHERS, give parents freedom to choose...remove politicians from the education business...and would provide more kids with the oppertunity to persue a better education than is currently available (especially in lower income districts)

WHY? is this so hard for so many to grasp?

There would have been a LOT more.

That attack was very well planned ahead.
They had propane cylinders strapped with highway flares stashed around that school.
