    Brady, I have to disagree with this.

    Granted it was 2 trucks but both were equipped almost identically except for rear ratio. Mark's truck and my truck are both autos with 3.4L, nornally aspirated v6s and 33s. He is regeared to 4.88s and mine is stock with 4.10s.

    I have driven both trucks on the same stretch of highway which includes an uphill and a downhill section as well as a flat section. Big difference between the two.

    On the trail is where the huge difference is. The crawl ratio is significantly better with the 4.88s, especially down hill. Mark's truck is able to idle down the trail, never having to touch the brakes to maintain speed. Engine braking is much more significant. Whereas, when I am behind him in the same section of the same trail, I have to apply brakes constantly to keep from over running him.

    Rather that say you are just wrong about this, I would say what you are experiencing may apply to your truck and 2nd gens in general. It seems to be very different on a 1st gens I have driven.

    I see. Could be a difference in the way the engines operate (modern engines are all about mpg and minimizing engine hold back will help improve fuel economy a lot). Mine holds back really well at high speeds (I think this is why my mpg went down, cant really coast anymore) but it is hardly noticeable at low speeds. The main difference is throttle response but again it is still not enough of an improvement to justify the cost of regearing. Crawlbox is cheaper and much more affective there. Regearing is good for getting lockers though:D and it is a great improvement to street driving.

    Hmmm, that makes sense to me. One of the things I don't like any longer since going to larger tires is how much it coasts. And one of the things I noticed in driving Mark's truck was how it doesn't coast very much/far.

    I hope you are right about throttle response, I no longer haz that. Hope to change that soon.


    Why were you asking about 4.30s?

    I can accelerate pretty nicely at half throttle, where as before it would practically take full throttle. I made a bigger jump than you though, well unless you go to 5.29's I guess. Haha I enjoy giving it a little extra throttle hear and there though;)

    Good hell... it is 8 degrees outside right now!
