Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I have a trussed Tundra axle now. But I would have been quite happy rocking my taco axle till the thing exploded (which in hindsight...it kinda did). It's one of those expenses that's hard to justify, especially when you have a fully functional and locked axle. I can think of a few things I would have rather spent the money on first.

The upside of the whole ordeal...I learned a lot. Not sure I would have rebuilt and revalved my shocks, learned about pinion angle, axle wrap, full float vs semi float, different locker options, etc etc etc if it wasn't for the fact I bent the hell out of my axle.

100 jumps didn't do shit to my axle. But 1 run down the fence line at pismo with 3' woops in the middle fucked everything up.

Welded the crush sleeve on the steering column today. Its really easy to do, less than an hour to get tools out and the welder out, look at the steering column a few times, get my computer out, reference the ttora article that pulls the whole damn steering column, go back out to the truck and yank the steering wheel, weld it, re-install and put all the tools back away. No more click :D

Ok so really simple, remove the dash panel and cover on the steering wheel (have to move the steering wheel 90* each way to access steering wheel cover screws) and you have this (non tilt wheels may be different)

First mark the collar at the very bottom with a marker or something so you can realign the splines when you put the colomun back in. Then remove all 4 clips from the turn signal, airbag, horn(?), and wipers. Next remove the bolt at the very bottom all the way (just loosening will not release the collar). Then remove the two springs at the top, one on each side only one is pictured. Then remove the two allen bolts, one on each side only one is pictured. The whole assembly will slide out, you may have to pry the collar at the bottom open a tiny bit to let the column out

**Ooops forgot one part, you must have the keys in the ignition so the steering wheel is unlocked to let the column slide in and out from the ignition**

You want to put a few tack welds on the crush sleeve...

then reverse the steps, align your marks on the column and collar and re-install the steering wheel and dash panels and your done :)

^The last piece he took off with the allen screws (the part with the ignition lock) can stay in the truck if you just take off those allen bolts first, you can see it still bolted in my truck in the 2nd photo. Everything else is the same

I really like your spare set up, do you think it would be possible to make something similar that is bolt on but still strong?
