This isn't about you. Calm down.

Let me rearrange things to make better sense:

    There, much better.
The right tool in the wrong application, or heavy dependence on an assistive tool to do all your thinking is erroneous.

If you had a front locker, you probably would not want the A-TRAC if only for the weird noises it makes? LOL

The advantages of A-TRAC over front (or front and rear) lockers are:
*No steering problems on the trail, the differentials are open and only the spinning tires are locked to the traction tires' rotation rate for short times, when needed, instead of all of them locked all the time, rather they need it or not.
*No need to constantly turn off and back on the A-TRAC, it works automatically in low range.
*It is included in the price of the Off Road 4WD.
*It is covered by the warranty.

The advantages of a front locker (or front and rear lockers) are:
*No hesitation at being locked when low traction is found.
    *No strange noises made.
    *Smooth and quick 100% locked.
*You can lock the front in high or low range, as it is not a Toyota installed feature.

Dude, ATRAC sucks. If you rely heavily on it (like it appears you do) you have another thing coming to ya..

Getting back to the DAC system...

I can tell you from extensive real world experience that DAC is nice for long downhills that are relatively flat/even where you don't want to get up to speed and want to be easier on the tranny. If you're moving over terrain with sudden height changes (i.e. rocky slopes, ruts, etc.) DAC is not ideal. For the true "slow and controlled" situations, 4Lo + 1st Gear + Deft Brake Foot is still the king, unless you're rocking a dual case setup.

Happy new year gents! I probably won't be on tomorrow, but hey, it's been real, and it's been fun, but it hasn't been real fun!

Well........back to my original concern and post........
Went out yesterday to the muddy driveway and DAC worked great, nice slow crawl down. But.......4L without DAC was pretty much the same.
I don't know what I did differant, but at least I now know it works.

Nice that you got it to work... and on a driveway too! The key difference is that DAC is there to make sure you don't go sideways and roll. Low Range only will have the engine/wheel turning slow but no computer is watching the individual tires rotate to apply brake pulses to just one or more tires... Your foot can only apply brake pressure to all four tires, together... if you need to slow more than the low range rolls you... DAC is like a friendly HAL making a mid-course correction on your way to Jupiter!:D;):p
