I'm glad I only read weightweenies for a little while. That was an expensive combination, working at a bicycle shop and building up a road bike! I think I am getting away cheaper by reading TW!

It is and addiction. Just got my first REAL road bike back from a friend I sold it too 12 years ago. 1987 Pinarello Montello that I bought new back then.
Got the frame and fork back from him for $100 and just committed to another $850 for CyclArt to repaint and restore it to better than new.
Add some modern components to that and...............$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm sorting out different methods to haul my bike around. I’m thinking about mounting a Yakima rack to a set of cross bars on top of the bed. That way the rear tire can hang out the back and I won’t have to take the front tire off every time.

With your setup I noticed you also have your bike strapped to the bed, is this just for security or does the bike sway without it?

what other setups are people going with?

I use a Thule Space Station hitch rack. It is an older design and uses two Velo Vise trays mounted to a small set of cross bars attached to the receiver.
You could use any of Thule's trays on this set-up I use the velo vise because I personally think it is the most secure, and I refuse to use anything that clamps or attaches to my tubes in any fashion.

I'll take some pics and post them tomorrow.

However, I am planning to go with the factory crossbars for the bed rails and put a couple of trays up there for when we go camping as the hitch is then being used by the trailer.

Hey guys,I had a little time today so I decided to mount one of my trays to my cross bars and take some pics.As you can see,I'm able to leave my tonneau folded up and still fit on a bike. The bars come with Yakima "Mighty mounts" to accomadate either Square or round(Thule or Yak.).I have two trays but it seems like I could easily fit 5 or 6 bikes up there. The bars are rated for 50 lbss each so weight will not be an issue.....Cool way of transporting the bikes while maintaining the whole beds storage ability. After getting the bars I sold my Yak.roof system. Also,I think with the cargo bars mounted upside down,I could leave the trays on and close the tonneau when not in use.

    Check it out.....

I made this to be able to get my tandem in the back with the shell.
Couldn't back it in and use the Saris mount I attached to the bed mat for the single and my knees don't like crawling back there to secure the quick release. This allows me to attach the fork and just lift the rear and slide it in.

Supposed to be a prototype with plans to make a less heavy one but since it works for now I probably won't find the time for it.
    Works for the single also.

I use the rec-rac bike holder. It works with the bed rail system and I don't have to remove the front tire. It holds the bike in place even going 40 mph over RR tracks. The bike is a 05 Jamis dakar xlt 1.0. It's mostly stock, but I do try to upgrade as I brake stuff... seatpost, BB, hydro lines & tires.

Do any with lifts wish you didn't have one when you're loading bikes? I'm looking into the revtek lift but wasn't sure if it would make loading bikes a big pain.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about a Honda motorcycle. In new, retail condition, they would probably cost almost 10,000. I didn't pay any where near that much. If I were to sell them now, I could probably get about $5500 for all of them.
