have you tried a roller or ball? myofascial release is probably one of the most effective treatments (for lots of things)

My now ex, taught me to use a golf ball. Just roll the aching area over a carpeted room. It works NICELY, but it hasn't been enough.

I do too, but I'm whimping out today and hitting the stairmaster at the gym for an hour- windchill is -20 F, that's just painful :)

had a pretty good week (considering the holidays and all :D), got 6 miles of hill work in on Monday, 6 miles in on Wed, went x-country skiing Thur/Fri, 12 miles in on Sat & Sun- which gave me 1520 miles for the year

skiing was plenty of good exercise :)

decided today would be appropriate to run 13 miles in honor of the New Year, started out less than ideal ~ 20 F w/ a 10 mph wind, about an hour into the run the winds picked up to 20-ish and it started snowing- your basic blizzard :D

anywho- got 13 tough miles in to start the year

^ sounds like a great idea :) maybe also set a combination goal, if and when you reach x miles, you treat yourselves to a night out or a fun trip? teamwork :D

    Thats a good idea too!

we had thought about after each run putting $1 in a jar. either at the half year or year mark whoever ran the most gets the jar.

It really is what you get used to do. While living in OK, I learned to run in 113+ degree weather. It wasn't so bad when humidity was about 30% or less, but when it was above 30 and over 40%, it was BRUTAL.

I guess I will have to lear to run in sub 20 degree weather, or I won't get much running in Denver during the winter. I will not run under 10 degrees no matter what. Too much of a Floridian for that!

Went home for two weeks. Averaged out 30+ miles both weeks with three 8+ miles barefoot runs @ Clearwater Beach. It was HEAVENLY!

Ran a total of 1,017.89 miles for the year 2012.

Well I am starting to taper down my long runs in preparation for my first 13.1 race on the 26th of this month. I am hoping for something close to 2 hours.
Remember I have never run any race before so I will be really happy with 2 hour time. My longest runs have been 10.5 miles with the fastest being a 1:41 and I wasnt really giving it my all. I dont know the course at all and dont know how hilly it will be, the elevation gain is 675 ft. That does sound like a lot. Is it?

yeah 675 is pretty decent gain, kind of depends on where and how much- if it's relatively spread out throughout the 13 miles it won't be bad, if it's 675' in a one mile stretch it will be a dousy :)

^ I'd be careful to overtrain. I did it for the races that I ran until June last year and the results were awful. Leason learned.

I will be running my first Marathon in August 2013 at the age of 25. My dad has done Ironman 10 times and Ultraman also.. I have been asked over and over again by my dad to do it so this year I caved and we are doing a family relay. My sister will take on the swim my dad the bike and me the marathon.

Im exited and nervous but it will be a good goal to set and achieve
