My girlfriend has a remote start she uses daily. I'm planning on installing one in my truck within the next month (especially since I found out it doesn't come with a factory alarm...really Toyota?).

This is the first winter that I've had to drive to work since high school, (I always used to walk to the commuter rail), so it was never on my list of wants (plus I always had manual transmissions), but being three floors up and half a parking lot away, there's no way I'm walking down, starting up the truck, coming back in and waiting for it to warm up.

I'm eying the Viper 5204 personally.

We got our Tacoma in September and I couldn't figure out why the autostart wouldn't work. Only the doors worked from the fob, took it back to the shop who installed it and they showed how to get it back out of 'valet mode'.

Now I use it when it's cold, helps to get a head start on thawing the windows.

Remote Start? was this a factory option on the 08's? Would be a nice feature, but I guess I don't have it.. Is there a way to add this feature from the factory through a piggy back module?

I had one installed on my truck about 2 weeks ago, I mostly use it in the mornings now. But with the winter around the corner, I'll end up using it before I get in the truck every time soon enough.

My son-in-law is a car stereo/alarm installer I had him look into it before he did mine, he said Toyota doesn't make one.

I use my Viper remote start if the windshield looks frosted over. Love it, although since I got it the lady has me "warm her car up too" so I wind up going outside anyway. She can't let me have anything.

This! I had the dealership include a 2-way remote start when I bought the truck. I live in a city with monthly average lows that are well below freezing 6 months out of the year. Remote starts are almost a necessary convenience.

I used it more in Hawaii to cool down the truck than I ever have to de-ice it. I love it but never use it here in Oregon. Adventually it just stops being cool.

I have remote start in my commuter car only ( 96 corolla)

mainly becasue it sits outside as is the main transport for my son ( 18M old), so I use it every morning to warm the car up before I take him out to take to his pre school. Its nice to not have to scrap windows....

Its a great thing. I would like to add it to the truck as some point, but it garage kept, so its not so bad

    So update...

Installed the Viper 5204, love it.

I use it all the time, anytime I leave work, any time I'm leaving for work, I'll start it up in the parking lots anywhere I'm out shopping, just because.

Us Canadians just spray water on the window while we drive, as long as you keep spraying, you can see. :Atleast, I do that sometimes...

Well I picked up my Taco with remote start installed ...I start it ok ,lights come on ,but if I shut it off with the remote ( simulating that I'm not going to drive it) the lights still stay on until I open the door. Anyone have any Ideas how to get the lights off without opening the door? Im going to call the installer and maybe the manufacturer if needed.
