    Noise is caused by the camera's processor.

    A longer shutter time (as I described) is simply a result of the balance required between to F-stop and ISO setting, The method I described allows the processor to decide when it has enough light to be able to get a correct exposure. In this case, the shutter being open longer will reduce the chance for noise caused by low light.

    IMO, these Canon cameras can handle to low temps as long as you allow a little bit of acclimation. Going from 70* to 5* has the potential to cause some lens fogging until the camera cools down a bit.

    The only bad side effect I have seen from very low temps is battery life. The cold can drain the battery much faster than normal.

    I'm getting a 'jacket' for my camera just so it can stay warm when I'm out for long periods in the cold. :laugh: As for the battery I tend to keep it in my pocket or in my mitten so that my body heat will keep it warm when I'm not shooting.

    Shit...I don't think its the beta anymore...I just refreshed my PB page and it took me to the new site even though I told them weeks ago that I didn't like the new site and preferred to use the old site. :mad:

    And moisture in the cab...are you on recirc or fresh air when you have the heat/defrost running? Usually if my truck does that its because I have moisture in the cab in the form of wet clothes or soggy floormats from the snow. Once the cab heats up that moisture turns into condensation on the glass and the glass is colder so it freezes on contact.

    what type of floor mats do you have? if they're carpet bring them in the house overnight to dry out. I have rubber mats and the melted snow collects in them...I have a rag in the garage that I use to mop up as much of the moisture as I can after trips.

    does the fog smell sweet or taste acrid while you breathe in with your mouth open? it kinds of smells like maple bars.. the reason im asking is because your heater core could be leaking coolant into the cab and then vaporizing when your truck warms up. ive seen that happen with other rigs. hope this helps Ben.

    Ben my truck does that all the time too. Its from the snow thats frozen in the floor boards from your boots. I found cracking the window a tad while defrosting helps.

    Are you certain the AC compressor is engaging? You should be able to hear it engage.

    My panel has 2 defrost settings, one for windshield only and the other for windshield and front floor boards. When the knob is set to either of those and I turn the fan on, my AC compressor turns on. I can hear it turn on and if I am at idle I can also feel it. It will cycle on and off automatically after running a bit. As it cycles to ON, the computer will automatically increase engine RPM by ~200 if the engine is idling.

    As Lisa said, any moisture in the cab will cause the windows to fog, turning on defrost with fan removes the fog within seconds on mine regardless of where the temperature setting is at.
