Leveled Tacoma Tire Dilemma

I am wanting to know what people have experienced with a leveled truck on their tire sizes… I have a 2005 Double Cab 4x4 and it has a Skyjacker leveling kit on it.

Right now I have 16x9 Moto Metal wheels with 285/75r16 Nitto Terra Grapplers and it is almost time for new tires so I am debating on going down to a 265/75r16 (can I go this small with a 9” wide rim?). I am probably going to go to a Goodyear Duratrac, and I want to be able to have some suspension flex and not rub as much and that is why I considering a smaller rubber.

Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts or opinions of a leveled taco with the 265/75r16 rather than a 285/75r16?

 

We show a 265/75R-16 tire can fit on a wheel from 6.5 to 9 inches wide.

Where do you rub exactly?

 

265/75/16 would look pretty small on a 3'' lift. Would probably help with MPG's, rubbing, and weight though.

It rubs the cab mount and the front inner fender dispute removing quit a bit of plastic. The thing I don't like is when I am turning an go over a decent drop the suspension flexes and rubs really bad... I measures the height of the tires right now since they are almost shot and the height is about 31.75" tall so if I got some duratracs, I wouldn't think the height would be much different going to a 265

 

255/85/16 is what i run with a OME 3". Only very slight rubbing on the cab mount at full lock, full flex. only downside is limited tire choices

 

Take off your front Mud flaps

 

The mud flaps are gone now, but the 285's that i have now still rub the inner fender if they are turned and i have some suspension flex. I am just wonder what a 265/70r17 or a 265/75r16 would look like, because I think they would perform better off road.

 

265/70/17 is stock sport size.

Are you running UCAs? They have a pretty profound effect on rubbing, FWIW


Do a cab mount chop and be done with it.

 

265/65/17 is the stock size, i moved up to 265/70/17 with zero rub but im still using the stock wheels.

 

Is yours leveled or is that stock ride height?

 

my truck has 5100's @ 1.75" with a 1" block in the back

 

I still haven't pulled the trigger on new wheels and tires yet... I'm looking at a 17x8 pro comp series 5001 black wheel with 265/70r17 Duratrac or an 18x9 black xd crank or xd monster with a 275/65r18.

I'm leaning towards the 17" pro comp 5001 with c load range duratracs for the better MPG and better ride quality than an 18" wheel and tire combo but I'm still not sure how it'll look with my lift.

I need some opinions...

 

Both will give you a good ride just depends on what you like. One tire you may want to consider is the toyo at II since you like an agressive tire. They actually are lighter than the dura tracs , come in load range c and also come with a 65k warranty. Just look on treaddepot.com and they will give you all the specs to include weights etc

 

Anyone have photos of a 3" lift with 265/75r16? I've seen plenty of the threads but I am still trying to convince myself one a 32" or 33" tire?

 

I'm running 265/70/17 on 17x9 pro comp wheels. Grabber AT2's. 2.5" in front 2" in rear. I like the way it looks and rides.

 

To answer your question more thoroughly, putting a 265 tire on a 9" wheel is completely dependent on what the tire manufacturer lists. I know some 265 a/t tires list only up to 8.5" wheel.

 

That does look good! Do those tires look "ballooned" at all on a 9" wide wheel?

 

I would not say ballooned, I would say more like full. I like the way it looks.
