From what I read either in a snap holster or "securely encased". Which means in a glovebox should suffice.

I find it humorous when ppl tell me that there is a 3 step rule if the firearm is in the car.

Funny, because my CWP instructor told me 3 steps, so have other officers, deputies, and friends. Hmm.

some crappy dealer installed lift , 285's, trail pin striping, and a grill full of lights.
I sure am! I may be a more cautious about going down closed roads but it's certainly not going to stop me from going. I've been driving around the Citrus WMA for over 5 years and this is the first time I've gotten in trouble. Gotta pay to play I suppose.

I read the link but in the Florida statute it does not state the ammo and firearm must be stored separate.

    Thanks for the response!

Glad I ordered the Maxpedition CCW holster then. Hoping it will work for my Sig in the center console.

Normally when they refer to 3 step they mean the gun and loaded mag must be separate.

Uhm.. Never heard of that. it's three steps no matter what the order. it can be loaded ready to fire. As long as there is a three step process to have it in your hand ready to shoot.

Hate to burst the three step bubble here but there is nothing in any law book that pertains to a "three step process or rule." Law says it has to be securely encased. That means glove box, center console etc. As long as it is snapped. It does not even have to be in a holster in the glove box or center console as long as it can be closed securely and not "unsecured." trust me I have put people in prison over this and people have beat me in court over this. If you have any questions about securing a firearm in your car please ask me. I was on an ATF task force for illegal guns in Orlando and took cases Federal. Also, another misnomer is that guns have to be registered. The only guns that have to be registered are short barrel shotguns and fully automatic rifles.
