That actually just happened to my neighbor. They are both Air Force reserve and the husband is in Germany. She got pulled over and didn't know his gun was in the glove box till she opened it and it practically fell out. She stopped real fast to tell the police officer that it was there. He was cool with her. She didn't even tell him she was Air Force, I told her I would given him her military ID from the start.

 

It's a good idea but not the law as youre implying it is.

 

I never said it was a law. I just said a person should state that they have a weapon in the vehicle. So please show me where i said it was a law

but if you wanna go there. when i took my cwp class the instructor also said that when you get a cwp that is your responsibility to inform the officer, then if you fail to do so, you can lose it.

Might want to get with somebody in person who has it. It's not all that great. My Sig wouldn't fit (see below) but I imagine a sub-compact would be ok. It's a little bit lower down than you might think.

After doing some practicing, I think I'm going to prefer the center console mount. Very easy to get to and I can still be sitting upright. With the Wet Okole pouch, I had to fiddle with it a little bit to get a clean draw. Again, that was with my Sig P229 that has a hammer (DA/SA) so with another gun it may be fine. Just a little info from somebody who had the covers.

My P229 wouldn't fit. Even with it sticking out the top a little bit, it pulled the cover down and was dragging on the floor mat. Every time I'd bring my foot back to bend my knee I'd hit it.

For my situation and my gun, it wasn't all that great.

Didn't mean to get everybody going on a CCP debate. Just wanted to get info from Florida people who knew more than me (just moving here in 2010).

Thanks for the confirmation on the law - I'll feel better holstering the Sig in the center console now and I'm of the belief it's better to be honest with the officer on a stop than not say anything and have it come up later on for some reason. When I was dispatching, just hearing the fear in the officer's voice when a gun showed up and they called for backup was enough to convince me.

Thanks again. I stopped by wally world and saw a guy coming out of a new F150 decked out with police strobes. I was shocked to find out that he was the Sheriff and gets a brand new F150 as a county vehicle. Must be nice.
