Brake Light

My brake light usually comes on when I first start my Tacoma, but it goes off after driving it a few miles, they seem to work fine but I haven't had them looked at. Anyone else have this problem or have suggestions - pobalbly take it to the dealer or a good mechanic?

 

Have you checked the brake fluid level?

 

Agree, Fluid Level is low.

Thanks you two that commented, I reallly feel dumb now. I just got this Tacoma and didn't think to look. The brake fluid was low but not quite to the minimum, I added some and the brake light went out.

Usually, when the brake fluid is low, it means your brakes are low. Check them out.

 

I'm glad it was that easy! The fluid might be low because the brake pad linings are well worn, probably even original. It would be good to get them checked soon. Of course when you replace those, the caliper pistons will compress and raise the fluid in the master cylinder reservoir, perhaps overflowing it now that you've added some. All part of the fun of maintaining a vehicle!
