I never really cared to the fake manual thing the automatics do these days (the 4Runner has it), but compared to the 6spd, just selecting "D" on these automatics really make the 4.0 seem lifeless...

Your playing a video game with drive by wire. It has to be processed then the signal gets to the TPS and then your flap opens. It's stupid. Never mind all the inputs to the PCM to the trans it's blahhh boring. Manual trans, with a cable throttle YOUR IN CONTROL

I have to mash the pedal all the way down to get it to get up and go... I was driving the Tacoma around in "3" to feel good for city driving.

Those fake manuals are pretty stupid in my opinion. That last 2 I drove would still shift if you lugged too far or overrevved. The torque convertor would still unlock also, it's just a manual for dummies.

True, I dunno if the 4Runner will shift itself, that would suck for offroading, but at least it was responsive compared to what I've experienced from Hyundai and Subaru's version of it.

Fords are the same way with that slap shift. If you leave it in Manual second and hold it to the floor it will shift into 3rd and continue to go thru the gears.

Maybe there is way of disabling that? I doubt it though as it seems any changes to the 4Runner has to go though Toyota's Techstream software.

My first mod might be to steal the cup holders from my Tacoma and integrate them into the center console of the 4Runner.
