I turn 30 on July 8th and I guess it's traditionally a big number to turn (big step toward being "older").

Anyway, this Saturday is a surprise party at my house and I am the only one who is (supposedly) in the dark about it. Well, I had a feeling something was up and, unfortunately, it was confirmed when I accidentally got an email that mentioned it.

Then, last night, my wife made about 100 meatballs. She said she wanted to freeze them for later but I knew what was up!
So now, I am having a bit of fun with this. My brother is taking me golfing Saturday morning and I keep trying to make plans for after our game (drinks, lunch, etc). I've put my wife on the spot and questioned a few things about the weekend (why are we not doing this or that, why are not hanging out with so and so, etc). I smile on the inside when she scrapes around for an answer.

Anyway, it would've been really cool to not know about it but it's been fun to play these games. Plus, I will have our house and landscaping looking in top shape for the big day! I can also make sure my liquor cabinet is fully stocked! I suspect about 50 people.

Anyone ever have a surprise party thrown for them? Did you know about it? Those that knew, what kind of tricks did you pull?

I turned thirty a few months ago and felt like crap too but when I recapped my lift it wasn’t so bad. I got my college degree, have a decent career, own my own business and a house all before I turned thirty. The last two isn't so easy to do living in CA. Now that I think about it, its probably all down hill from here :D

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

I was in the same situation on my 21st. I hate b-days (my own) though and treat them like any other day. So it was quite awkward for me.

    Happy Birthday!!!!!

I turned 26 last month - my girlfriend and my best friend had been planning a surprise party since march.. My buddy made plans with me to go shooting saturday morning in the desert, well that was when she got everyone to my house and set it all up. I had no idea anything was goin on. First surprise party ever. I walk in thru the front door, and i get this:

Man, you guys are making me feel worse about turning 30 :frusty:

Actually, I'm pretty happy with my life thus far. I have a beautiful wife and daughter, a college degree, own my business, own a house, have 06 and 09 paid-off vehicles, great friends and much much more.
And I got to see the Steelers win 2 Super Bowls.

I have less motivated friends who are also happy but not nearly as well set-up as me. I'm not gloating because I have worked hard for everything I have. But I am definitely not regretting it!

A surprise party would've been nice

That's awesome!!! They got you good!

It's a tall feat to plan a party without the person finding out. I'm going to repay her with a surprise vacation next year :D

    30's a good one :)

40 sucked for me. I was on my way to Iraq after desert training. I sent my kid to live with her Mom for a year, so nobody was around. I ate a piece of cake all by myself. Was pretty pathetic!

I believe at my house. My wife did a lot of cleaning last night. Nothing out of the ordinary but I noticed it because I 'know'.

I'll help her clean some things so she is not too stressed out getting this all set up. Maybe I should stop messing with her....:p....NAH!!! :D

My 18th birthday was a big surprise party at my place...My buddy and I had some stuff to do at school (on a Saturday...It was stupid)...So we went to do that and my folks set it all up with my g/f and a bunch of friends and stuff.

I did know...so I stalled the shit outta going home. My mom called me twice on the way to ask what was going on "cause she was worried"

Have fun with it...Get some water guns or something and just start spraying people when they jump out and say "surprise" or something....

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
i've never had a bday party out side of dinner with my parents. My dad's bday is on xmas, and mines a few days after. People tend to forget. hell, if it wasn't for facebook, the only people who would remember would be my mom and girlfriend. Even my dad forgets my birthday, and when he remembers, he never knows how old i am. I'm only 20...

I never had a surprise party thrown for me, but I've done one for two of my best friends, and I threw one for my girl friends 25th birthday party. She had NO CLUE. I threw it at my house and invited all her old friends. One of our mutual friends took her out all day and towards the end slap head phones on her and a blind fold for a surprise. She ended up crying from tears of happiness when she took of the blind fold and saw all our friends and her old friends I called up. I snuck into her phone and her myspace and contacted everyone I knew she would want there...Im good :)

^ that's good stuff! As I said before, I wish this could've been pulled off without me knowing. In talking with some outer rings of friends, they seem to also be acting weird about this weekend too. Remember...no one knows I know so I keep trying to make plans with everyone.
If she dug into our out circles of friends, this could be a bigger party than I figured - maybe 75+. She loves to organize things but I didn't think she could do so without my help - kinda proud of her :).

It's even funnier that I have to sneak around HER to help. I came into work late today because, once she left for work, I blew the maple seeds off our patio. I'm taking half a day tomorrow to mow, trim, edge and straighten up the yard. Too much and it will tip her off so I'm leaving just enough laying around that she will probably clean it up before the party. I continue to try and plan out our weekend so I don't think she has a clue!

I have that anxious feeling and still 2 days to go!

I thought about carrying a super soaker when I walk in the door.

I think I would rather let her bask in her perceived success for the day. It would be nice if she NEVER knew I knew but I'm not that good at holding stuff back. I'll let her know the next day that I knew.
