Rear diff Regear

I have nitro 4.56's from ECGS and have ~10,000 all either off road or to and from off road. No problems. Followed break in procedure and changed my own diff oil.

 

About 4000.

I have my ring and pinion from my 09 8" elocker with about 40k on it....only wheeled a little bit. I can have it in the mail tomorrow if you are willing to pay the shipping...

Back to this, what is the stock gearing in a 09 trd or? I have the elocker.

Is this true even for the manual tranny? I know it holds true for automatics...

 

Not sure. haha, some of the differences between the two surprise me sometimes. Like how the auto's use the wheel speed sensors to determine speed, but the manual's use the transfer case. So regearing an auto doesn't affect the speedo, but it does in a manual.

No theres a member on here that is selling a 3rd with 410...was thinking for a temp fix on my rear end untill after christmas...

 

Ah. He doesn't have a factory locker anyway so it wouldn't fit. You have to get a TRD Offroad diff for a TRD offroad.

How many Miles/Kilometers on your Tacoma? It may be covered under the 60,000 mile drive train warranty. The dealer is replacing mine (46,000 miles) right now at no cost.

 

Right, but the problem there is you get another Toyota gearset.

So Im wondering what Is the major problem with the rear elocker diff? is it weak due to gears or design?

 

Mostly gears... IMO

But certainly it's "too small" when you start throwing large tires and wheel spin at it, considering the weight and output of these trucks. Not that it's going to break but it's maybe a bit undersized for the job, considering it's basically the same rear end you have in V6 3.slow trucks with minimal weight and power.

The non-elocker rear end is marginally better due to the trussing but you still have an 8" ring gear.

I also wonder what kind of carrier bearing pre load these things are coming with from the factory... that could have a decent amount to do with why stock gear sets break.
