undercover vs. armor lid

the armor lid is 100.00$ cheaper...is there any difference between them?? ive seen plenty of undercover cover's around town but never seen any armorlids or i just didnt notice they were armor lids lol. well i would rather save 100.00$ if i can but if they undercover is a lot better then i might as well spend the 100 more

Ps: if any1 has pics of there covers on access cabs please post em here .....specifically a black access cab with the cover on it im curious to see how well it looks since the blacks might not match really well????

 

What's the price? My Undercover was $650 installed. I like it real well so far and the fit is excellent. Weather proof and secure. Seems like the armor lid is just a little to much the same as the Undercover as far as mounting kit, wall kit, fit, ect. Go to the Tonneau thread and there were some on there. Maybe not in black though.

 

I'm wondering the same thing as 4X4X4. I found my undercover tonneau for 600 with free shipping.

 

I have the Armorlid on mine. I love it. The only real difference that I see is that the armorlid is 10 pounds heavier. It is still real easy to put on and take off of the truck. I weigh about 170# and can stand on it with no worries. And yes it is about $100 more than the undercover. More weight or more money....Your choice.

ya well the local truck shop said like 700 for the undercover for everything installed and there over priced on everything so i was just gonna order it online and i have found them around 600.00 which isnt to bad. Where did ya'll buy yours from? both the undercover and armor lid

 

Knew what you meant. Quick question off thread. You like the Westins and is the CAI a oil free AFE by the picures. Did the CAI seem a vast improvment?

 

Locally, and in four phone calls the price for the Undercover varied from $650 to $850 installed.

 

I got the the armor lid from machanicswarehouse.com for $499. I love the westins. Cant beat a lifetime warrenty. And they sit higher than the frame so it dosent reduce ground clearance. The CAI is a dry type, I do notice a improvement in the horsepower as well as scaring the people in the vehicles next to me at the light if I step on it. Havent had it on long enough to notice any fuel increase.

 

do you guys recommend getting the undercover installed by a shop or is it easy enough to install by yourselves

 

I know the owner of the shop and he let me get my hands dirty so to speak. Took about 20 min. to install with help from one of his shop guys. But the directions are simple enough and you shouldn't have any problems at home. You might check out their web sight under the install part and look it over and see if it looks like a do it yourself to you.

I spent about $640 for my Undercover installed. I had to negotiate a little to get that price, but if they know you can get it cheaper online, most will work with you on the price. So far - I love it - good fit andkeeps everything in the bed dry as can be.

 

It's just slightly more complex than walking and chewing gum. If you can read a tape measure and operate a socket wrench it's an easy project. I did it solo and it took about 40 minutes start to finish including opening the VERY LARGE BOX it arrives in.... You have to be able to receive it by truck. I had it shipped to me at work and installed it in the parking lot.
It's easier to put the cover on (and take it off) with someone helping but I do it alone without any trouble.

I just started looking at the ABS Tonneau covers again. A few months ago the Undercover beat price I say was about $720 installed. Today I found the Armor Lid so buying one and installing myself was about the $120 less since it came with free shipping. The thing I did not like about Undercover was that the Cleats had to be removed from the bed rail if the cover was on truck. With limited tiedowns in the Tacoma it would be nice to use the Cleats with the cover on. Does the Armor Lid allow you to keep the Cleats on while the cover is on the truck?

 

The tie-down cleats work with my Undercover tonneau. They touch the cover just a little when it's down, but they can still be used forward of the struts if needed.

Thanks for the info and pictures. Proof is in the picture. I see the cleat on the the front rail with the cover on. The online install manual on pg 3 and 4 states that they cannot be used with the cover installed. Undercover is back on my shortlist.
