There was talk that the 2010 Tacoma's would have a better (more fuel-efficient) engine.

I asked a salesman who contacted the district manager. They say no, same engine, same MPG as the 2009's.

    Can someone confirm?

Last year someone posted a web address which contained the release and production dates for all the 2009 Toyota's. I wish I could find it again.

obamas new standards are going to cause a stink. he is wanting to get rid of most trucks unless they get 35 mpg and higher taxes for the owners of new trucks look it up it made me sad when i read that article.

I was going to buy a 2009 Prerunner, but if the 2010 engine has better performance, I'll wait it out...

Key word in regards to the new CAFE mpg standards is fleet average. If Toyota sells enough small and fuel efficient vehicles, those will offset the vehicles that get not-so-good mpg.

I asked Toyota HQ. Their reply was no major changes until 2012 with a redesign of the drive line or styling . This statement makes changes since the new rules CAF start in 2012 and take full effect 2016

The Japanese car makers are already meeting the new standards on a fleetwide basis. THe ones that are going to have trouble are the Big 3 and some of the European manufacturers Mercedes Benz.

That 35.5 is a 'fleet' average. Not every vehicle will have to get 35.5 mpg.

^I keep saying that, but it seems like many people keep misinterpreting the new CAFE regulations as each vehicle needing to get 35.5 mpg.

So we're running a couple months behind last years production.

Found this too, drive by wire for '10

"Toyota has implemented a new Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) in the 2010 Tacoma, further optimizing fuel consumption. Gear up Toyota fans – the 2010 Tacoma’s 4.0L 236Hp V6 mated with a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission is expected to deliver even better performance on and off the road."

What kind of improvement can we expect?
    1-2 MPG?
