I want an engine with the power and torque of the 3UR-FE with the fuel economy of a Prius.....if they can make that.....then I would want that.

    What are you talking about?

24 valves never had a VP44 pump

Just curious if anyone voting for a diesel option even owns a diesel truck. They arn't all they are cracked up to be. I like the ease of use of my gas burning 4.0. And it's inexpensive oil changes. ($6 oil filter vs $20, 5 quarts vs 4 Gallons!) Oh yea and that extra dollar per gallon of fuel.

No they didn't come with a p pump but that's why I said this diesel is built.

When you compare say a full sized V8 to a full sized diesel oil capcity only doubles. Regardless I've spelled out the benefits and so has Rich. Rich even posted figures in regards to finances / economy.

The only incentive Toyota will have is, like you alluded to, consumer demand. It seems GM is really pushing for more diesel and will build a compact, turbo diesel for the second year of the new Colorado. If consumers buy that then Toyota will be forced to reconsider its stance. If consumers pan on it, then Toyota won't do a damn thing.

My wife and I bit the bullet and bought a VW Golf TDI as a third car. Its 140hp and ~240lb-ft are plenty to make it fun to drive and the fact that this car gets about 3 times the mpg of my taco and 1.5x her 2.0T A5 puts a huge smile on our faces.
It burns clean. I was planning on using that car to provide tension on my winch for its initial wind up, and accidently stuck my face in the exhaust (while looking for a hook) and it was just steamy. Didn't smell like the diesel equipment from construction sites or HD trucks.
The car has a 14 gallon tank and so far we've used about 5/8 tank, and gotten 290 miles with mostly city driving and with me stomping the gas and revving the engine.
Personally, I think that the small diesel engine would be great for the working man's taco. I think the d4d would compete with the 2.7 I4 2wd models, rather than the 4.0L V6 prerunners or 4wd. Most tacos where I am appear to be owned by contractors, with the lumber racks and boxes. The v6 would still appeal to people who want to go fast and ride in comfort. The diesel's better mpg seems like it would appeal to contractors in urban environments, even if they have smaller towing capacities. The gas v6 will still sell to people who just want to have a truck to occasionally haul shit. WRT towing, I don't think the taco is a great choice for that, but I think I have read that the American truck companies are considering smaller diesels for the full size pickups.
All that being said, I would have bought a 4.7 or 4.6 v8 in a heartbeat when I got my taco.

Speculation or fact? As far as I know, nothing has been announced. Although the landscape for mid size trucks is about to become more competitive with the Chevrolet Colorado....Toyota will have to up the game if the Amarok does come in 2014....

We recently bought a 2012 VW Golf for my wife and I was asking the manager about the Amarok , he said that it was a done deal from what he was told at the last VW managers meeting

If Chrysler is serious about a Jeep based tuck and since they are serious about throwing a turbo diesel into the 1500, Toyota has to do something about the MPG in the taco.

It's easy to justify a taco when the money is just slightly better than a full size if you will never fully utilize a full size, but that argument goes out the Window when a full size is handily beating taco MPG.

It may be ignored by most without an legitimate existence and many have just given up hope, but it's hard to deny that when a model is offered with a diesel, it accounts for 1/3 of that's models sales. That's all models...from the F250 to the VW golf. There is an interest whether it's translatable from forum visit data or not.
