haha. Well the nice thing about being in New Mexico is we get all 4 seasons. Just don't have to deal with the extremes. Lived up in Washington for over 8 years, way up north and used to playing in the snow.

The only difference is this is the most recent 2wd. FWD works fine, suby and its AWD worked even better. Nothing to do with driving habits (however I think drivers in this state are pretty bad drivers, rain scares them).

So no, in my eyes there should have been no reason to lose or slip at all with the weather I have driven in.

As to the other poster, already working on my girl why I need to get some new tires, and a lift (cause that helps with traction to right? RIGHT? haha. jk)

I haven't had my Tacoma long enough to get the full winter experience, but so far, it does everything it needs to do. It usually takes me two winters to get fully used to a vehicle. Now, if we get some deep snow, then I will be able to fully test it. Icy roads, no problem so far.

While my Tacoma does quite well in the snow, my 4runner does better. Tacoma is just too light in the back I think, but add some weight to the bed to even out weight bias and they do great

I guess the ABS IS my biggest bitch. On my normal drive home from work I hit a turn lane that is downhill and bumpy a hell (reqires a full stop or 90 degree left turn at the bottom). Once the ABS kicks in (on snow or rain) the truck acts as if it's coasting. I ended up needing to change my newly soiled & smelly seat covers the first time it happened. Now I plan for it...

As far as traction, it's a tire limitation. I followed the boy through some very wet mud up some hills on our property and he made it no problem. He has a base 2010 standard cab 4x4 Taco with same size tire as my 2012 TX Pro 4x4. I thought, incorrectly as it turned out...even with my shitty tires, that with locking diff and all the electronic gizmos on my truck I'd be fine. Junior made dad look bad. He does have some tires that are well suited for mud...not so much for the pavement.

i think a lot of the time the electronics really limit the trucks capabilities... not all the time, but MOST... i mean all it takes is forgetting to turn that shit off before you start driving, then you get in some shit and it limits wheel spin, then you lose momentum, then youre stuck and its too late to shut it off. my 2011 was horrible with VSC and TRAC, i felt like i was in my fiances corolla with all that shit. tires do help quite a bit as well!

I've had varying success, mostly success. I don't think you'd have better luck in many other vehicles.

Pretty damn decent most of the time.

Or if we're talking about on road... I definitely think there are better vehicles out there but with some weight and the right tires, golden.

I find my Taco does alright in the snow. With the rear end being so light, I find myself needing four-wheel drive for the slightest snow cover. I've never had any issues going forward, but I cannot for the life of me get the thing to stop... My father's 1st Gen Tundra is exactly the same. But, we both have fairly mild A/T's. Once these wear out I'll replace them with Duratracs.

All in all, it'll get me where I'm going if I happen to get caught in a storm. However, if I know the driving will be bad, I'll take my built XJ any day of the week. The thing is a tank.

The pics of mine don't show what we were going through because I was leading and picked a good spot to stop. Not much snow on the open flat spots but the uphills were a different story. You can see in some of the other pics some of what we were dealing with. We got up over 7900ft.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Never had a problem getting around, does better than my Jeep did. My Bronco with good tires does better though I think, heavier, more power and none of the traction control stuff. Plows through drifts as high as the hood just fine in most cases. As far as handling on ice and slick roads, the Taco does way better, Bronco is like a toboggan on that stuff.

Runs fine in the snow. I did replace the stock dunlops with an AT (kept 245 width to be good in snow) and do put 240# over the rear wheels in the winter

I have found that pay attention to the road conditions I will be fine. When pushed to hard it can slide.

I gave the ABS a test on my street here yesterday on a sheet of bumpy ice. See the pic. It was clicking and pulsing, but did its job. Where the car is in the background is where I hit the brakes at 20 MPH.

You can see it's a pretty steep downhill. I came to a dead stop before where I was standing at and avoided a trash can on the way down. Not bad, eh? With stock Dunlops. Just pop it into neutral so the drive wheels don't keep pushing you and it's not bad.

Gotcha. Yeah, it was only a test. Made sure nobody was in the way and the driveways were empty before I did so.
