Saw a few postings online about this truck and did some research tonight that lead me back to TW.

Seems like a great little truck, plenty of power (180hp/300 trq) and 7000# towing capacity.
    28mpg~
Center diff with an a-trac like system on top models.

The only issues is with ground clearance. They have nearly 2" less than the hilux(no idea how it compares to a Taco), thanks to stop 29" tires.

Also, lifting seems to be very limited to do CV angles. 1.6" seems to max it out before a drop bracket style lift is needed.

Luckily 1.6" lift seems to be enough to fit a 265/70/17 tire (32), but that kills a lot of power as it is a 3" upsize.

Luckily, it seems VERY likely this truck will hit the Canadian shores soon. So much so that in June Autocar even reported it was coming this way, and VW has a Canadian brochure already floating around online.

I love my currently VW GLI but need a truck, if VW can price this truck properly in its segment I would consider one in a second.

Is there a global standartd similar to SAE J-2807 that Amarok, global Colorado, Ranger, Hilux, BT-50, Navarra, D-Max etc need to comply to? In Europe, Australia, Asia or globaly?

Or is 7000lbs tow rating pulled out of VW ass?

All of these global ute's have much more payload than our half-tons, and similar tow ratings, while still averaging better fuel economy. However some of these numbers may only be a marketing game. On the other hand only Toyota as far as I know complies with SAE J-2807, so would not be much different then here.

Can't say I ever cared for VW but the truck looks nice, especially in those videos Sockmonkey posted earlier.

Honestly I could give a rats ass what the fuel economy is during towing. Let's say it gets 10mpg while towing but I only tow once a year and it isn't terribly far. As long as the truck gets fantastic mileage during daily driving that MORE than averages out in my favor.

Saw this truck when I was in Greece. There was like 5 of them being driven by VW all around the town. Thought they looked nice.

That's a sweet truck- I'd like to get my hands on one of them! What year is this one? And don't worry- sounds like your Uncle is my kind of person- I'd do the same thing with the muffler. The muffler on my Civic (whose name is Senor Hondos) is held on with clamps, tape, and JB weld. xD

VW has a very nice looking diesel midsize truck, they are actually testing it and whatnot here in Miami, I have even driven in it and it is very nice. They wont be selling it here though. I will take a few pictures next time I see it at the office.

Resurrecting this thread. The Amarok will probably be getting a facelift soon. Spotted testing with LED "border" daytime running lights similar to other VAG cars:

Interesting how a factory test vehicle has an aftermarket light bar on the roof.
