There is a huge Green Mtn Forest presence in that area.
Killington & its close proximity Woodstock is not necessarily a off road meca being how it caters to people with lots of $$.

You will have better luck sticking to areas around Mendon, Chittenden, Rochester, Shewsbury, Ripton, Plymouth. Usually you can visit a local general store & ask unless someone from the specific area is in the know.
The GMF near Breadloaf is loaded with trails.
Otherwise it is private land with permission.

There used to be some great trails off RT 100a in Plymouth Union. I used to hunt up there every year, but havn,t been there since 2007...make sure you have a winch or someone else with you. it can get hairy up there in places..:rain:

Be real careful if you're heading that way. They got hit hard during Irene. CCC Road from Shrewsbury to Plymouth is probably closed for good, keep hearing they aren't going to rebuild the road (beautiful road and awesome shortcut). Lot of trail trashed over in that area. I'm a few miles from the Shrewsbury end, friends got a camp over that way.

Your right about the storm, A lot of country was ruined by all that rain. I spent a week in Ludlow back in June and never got a chance to get up there. I have a good friend in cuttingsville and ran the CCC road many times.. Like you said A great short cut from RT 100 to Shrewsbury. I did take a ride past Colby pond to Reading and brownsville and saw a lot of water damage over there. The other thing with going to Vermont to wheel is that the People are very nice but don,t take well to trespassing..Always stop and ask permission

Welcome from Burlington! I grew up in Charlotte and am now at UVM. Still end up in Charlotte one night per week though for CVRS shifts.
